Chiefs’ Johnson tries to find encouragement in loss (http://www.kansascity.com/sports/chiefs/story/1458139.html)

In the past, this was the kind of game that might have led Larry Johnson to vent some of his frustration publicly.

The Chiefs, after all, lost 13-10 to the Oakland Raiders on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium, in the process fumbling their best chance to reel in a victory in the season’s early weeks.

Johnson’s play improved. He rushed for 78 yards, a big leap from last week’s season opener in Baltimore, but he wasn’t on the field during crucial moments.

Still, Johnson was a source of encouragement for the Chiefs as they search for a way out of their 0-2 hole.

“You just have to look at the positives,” he said. “It’s a long season, and anything can happen. We never know when our turning point will be, but we’ll turn it around.

“We’re just waiting for that turning point, and as soon as we get that, then everybody will start understanding what it takes to win.

“This isn’t like last year when those (close losses) were happening … they were late in the season. This season, things are happening early, so we have a chance to clean those mistakes up and come back and make sure things like this don’t happen again.”

After gaining just 20 yards against the Ravens, Johnson was able to find some running room against the Raiders. But it took Johnson 24 carries to get his 78 yards, and his per-carry average of 3.3 yards was bettered by both of the Chiefs’ other running backs, Dantrell Savage and Jackie Battle.

Johnson was also replaced by Savage in obvious passing situations, including those at the end of each half.

Still, the Chiefs outgained the Raiders by more than 2 to 1 and saw a lead slip away when Oakland scored the go-ahead touchdown with just more than a minute remaining.

“It is frustrating for it to go down that way,” Johnson said. “Our spirits were so high in the last 2 minutes of the game and then they were certainly crushed at the end. You just have to come to work (today) and understand that we don’t ever want to feel like this again.”

I like his attitude about this.

He is spot on. They looked pathetic after the NE game last year and took most of the season to get close games let alone wins. I beleive we will go from these agonizing loses to wins before the year is done.
