Martin Rucker was cut by the Browns, is he worth a look?

Hootie? Oh wait...that's Darius Rucker.

I hope Kansas City brings him in just to piss off the Jaycock fans.

Yeah i think he could definately help at tight end... if it's him goin across the middle sunday cassel no throw no interception.

The guy can't block for shit.

who cares. we have blocking tight ends comin out the ying yang. Atleast give him a look. Whats the worst that could happen.

So? Most young NFL tight ends can't block for shit. Their college programs don't train them to do so.

I know he had a knee injury was it last year? How's his status coming back from that? Does that factor into why he was cut?

All I know is he is a better receiver than anyone we have at TE right now, pick him up.

Well considering how awful we are at the TE position...Jake fucking O'Connell is getting snaps.

O.city
09-22-2009, 06:49 PM
Well they guy can catch the ball wherever he is from and he is big. And El Chapo is right, not many tight ends come into the league a great even good blocking tight end. Give him a look.

doomy3
09-22-2009, 06:50 PM
If we are going to pick up a TE, I would much rather pick up Leonard Pope. If Rucker didn't go to a local school, not one person on this board would care about him.

Fugg off.

I'm a hawk fan, and if he's healthy and can catch the ball, suit his dumbass up.

I dunno Pope is old. Bring in Rucker he could actually be something for the future instead of a quick fix.

Sorry, it's true though. The guy hasn't even seen the field in Cleveland.

I wonder if any other team's board in the NFL has a thread about Rucker being waived.

He's probably better than Cottam.

It's not like he's a bum. Nation's best tight end in 2007. Rucker is one year removed from being a top five tight end prospect in the 2008 Draft class. Drafted high in the fourth round.

He can't block but he was a baller receiver. I'd bet dollars to donuts that he's better than Jake O'Connell.

That's more a reflection about our shitty talent level than it is where Rucker went to school.

He just got released by the Cleveland Browns. One of the only teams that can rival our shitty talent is the Cleveland Browns. On offense, they have next to no playmakers and they just released this guy. I would say that's some sort of indictment on his talent.

This is a good take, but you can also make the argument that the Browns don't know shit from shinola, and most likely couldn't or wouldn't let Rucker do what he does best (catch the ball), and tried to make him a goalline blocking tight end or something.

Ya he did come from a Local School, so we got to see him week in and week out. We saw what he can do and MIzzou. If he can come in and catch the ball and work the middle of the field give it a chance. and i forgot pope was 26 was thinkin of someone else. My bad.

Damn, it's good to see TG finally playing for a winner, but it really sucks not having a tight end worth a shit on the roster and we're only going to get a late 2nd round pick next year for sending him to Atlanta.

I still can't believe we traded back into the draft, avoiding offensive lineman, to take that dumb fuck who had like 20 career catches in the MAC.

What is it with this franchise and retarded ass 7th round picks of TE's lately (Merritt, O'Connell)

When I said he was the nation's best tight end, I was referring to Rucker earning consensus All-American honors.

However, the John Mackey Award went to USC's Fred Davis in 2007.

Hes better than O'Connell so of course bring him in! Sad thing is that we would end up keeping O'Connell and cutting Cottam for some strange reason.

Washington is busy wasting him because they thought it was great to use a 2nd round pick on a TE when they had Chris Cooley, brilliance.

All-american TE in college? Nah...wouldn't think twice about it

Blocking is obviously not his strength, but he can catch the ball better than any of our TEs and he usually gets good YAC.

The context of the last 3 pages of posts has been what he did in college and whether, based on that (since he obviously didn't do much w/the Browns), we should give him a look. Do you really think we shouldn't?

I think you don't know if he is good at YAC in the nfl because he was dragging College kids around.

I say bring him in and put O'Connell on the practice squad. That Rucker didn't do much in his first season is not a shock, he tore his meniscus in the preseason and had to have arthroscopic surgery and didn't see any gametime until week 12. Plus he was a rookie and very seldom does a rookie do much, even if they are healthy.

We have too much inexperience on our roster right now as it is, but he has to be better than O'Connell. I think O'Connell has promise, but isn't ready to be on the field yet. The game is too big for him and Lawrence right now, both could be on the practice squad and neither would get signed away.
