Pelosi: No Grayson apology necessary UPDATED

Nancy Pelosi is shrugging off GOP calls for a mea culpa from Alan "they want you to die quickly' Grayson.

"We have to have a debate that is not distracted from... Apparently Republicans are holding Democrats to a higher level than they are holding their own members," she said, referring to floor comments by some Republicans who have said Democratic health care reforms would lead to higher deaths among seniors.

"There's no more reason for Mr. Grayson to apologize... If anybody’s going to apologize everybody should apologize," Pelosi said at her weekly press conference.

UPDATED: John Boehner still wants his apology.

"I think it's time for the Democrat leaders and the Speaker of the House herself to rein in some of the rhetoric that she decried just several weeks ago," he says. "And if he's not going to apologize to the American people and to Republicans as he should, it's really the Democrat leadership's responsibility to have the conversation [with Grayson]."

Yesterday he said republicans want people to die. A bit far out right? Do you have any legitimate proof otherwise? While the Reps ARE trying to turn this into an OBAMA FAILURE 44000 Americans die of no health coverage at the rate of 120 a day. So the man is right and I wish more Dem politicians showed more backbone.

Then this...republicans are what?

Top two definitions from dictionary.com:

hol⋅o⋅caust
  /ˈhɒləˌkɔst, ˈhoʊlə-/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [hol-uh-kawst, hoh-luh-]

–noun
1. a great or complete devastation or destruction, esp. by fire.
2. a sacrifice completely consumed by fire; burnt offering.

I don't see anything wrong in using the word. Only those who don't have very good vocabulary think the 3rd definition is the exclusive one.

I hate to agree with Frankie, but more democrats need to talk like Grayson. They need to be honest and up front about more of their feelings regarding their American subjects and their vision for this country's future.

It's a toss up between selective outrage or projection...

I completely agree and this goes for both sides of the aisle. That way everyone can see what nutcases the vast majority of them are and we can weed out the worst of them at the polls.

Truth be told, CNN is probably more in the middle than any other News Outlet. Problem is, their product sucks.

I'll go on record as knowing next to nothing about Grayson, but this statement was dumb and deteriorating to rational discourse about healthcare reform.

A nut? I don't know, probably. I probably agree with him on healthcare reform, but I've never resorted to saying something this severe -- Grayson is out of his league if he thinks this helps more than it hurts.

It helps him generate funds. Nancy Pelosi apparently doesn't think it hurts enough to warrant an apology.

Well of course Pelosi doesn't think that. What do you think she is? Fair?

It'll help him generate tons of funds, both for and against. It's a Joe Wilson moment.

Not that I condone or necessarily agree with Grayson's comment, but I think it was clear, contextually, that he was referring to Republican members of Congress.

I'm honestly trying to think of a republican equivalent to this guy. I mean, I might expect this sort of thing in reverse from Limbaugh or Savage or if this was in private with no media around, but an elected congressman on the house floor?

This guy is probably in a very dark blue district and can accuse republicans of wanting to promote violent baby-murder for profit without repercussions, but is he really the best his district could offer? At least with Wilson, you had an emotional outburst and an apology so its hard to hate the guy no matter what you believe, but this guy is a clown.

Well, Joe Wilson's apology wasn't very sincere. It even included the words "the leadership came to me and told me to apologize."

Never once of the six times he has now mentioned Republicans has he distinguished one over another. He uses the term as one of disdain and frankly, it is offensive.

Actually, Wilson's direct private apology to the POTUS was good enough for P. Obama and his staff who invited Mr. Wilson for a civil discussion.

Let's see Grayson worked for Scalia, is worth around 40 million, and did that in the private sector. He can be criticized for going into the law firm of Ginsberg's husband. But he gave the conservatives more than a fair shake to make their case.

Of course we could mention that wolfman is all over the women who lied about her weight and pre condition saying she needed to pay more to get insured because he really is all for her not getting sick in the first place and dying fast because he doesn't want a real acutuary to do the risk tables and corresponding expense and charge over the whole population like any sensible insurance company would do.

You should probably understand context & how words work with each other form meaning before finding things to get fake-offended at.

Like Obama would have been all unacceptable of the apology.

Wow, you can not only divine intent for Grason, but the POTUS as well! I am impressed. To bad that doesn't mean squat, does it?

Slander, libel, and harrasment laws are not based on intent, but rather perception. Grayson was interviewed and told point blank that many Repulicans "across the nation" were offended. He ignored the comment and said "the dead are the who should be offended". Grayson is a wacko neocomm.

You want to wander into Grayson-land from the other side of the issue?

Dems want your prospects for continued health and life to be tied to fealty to the Dem party. You want health care? Put us in power and we'll deficit spend and strip the rich to get it to you through federal means, but if you ever tire of Dem rule, class resentment based taxation and excessive spending, remember that the government controls your health now and you reject our rule at the expense of your life.

Why not? It worked with Medicaid beautifully, just as you have scripted above, for decades.

I think Grayson is a cockbag. But its clear, with all of the talk of plans and such, that he was talking about elected Republicans. Citizens aren't expected to come up with legislation; that's kind of out-of-the-norm.
