Chiefs Sign T Barry Richardson to 53-Man Roster
Oct 17, 2009, 4:43:27 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has signed T Barry Richardson to the 53-man roster. Richardson spent the first five weeks of the 2009 season on Kansas City’s practice squad.

Richardson (6-6, 319) played in six games for the Chiefs a year ago after entering the NFL as the first of the club’s two selections in the sixth round (170th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft. He started 46 of 49 contests during his four-year collegiate career at Clemson. Richardson was a three-year starter on the offensive line at Wando High School in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.

The Chiefs released LB Justin Rogers on Saturday. Rogers played in 15 games with Dallas in 2008, recording 18 special teams tackles.

I know he's a RT and all, but I hope he takes over at G for Goff.

He'll probably be our backup LT for Sun. though.

I fear for Cassels safety if Barry plays either tackle position for any significant amount of time.

Id also like to say, again, that it was a big mistake to let Herb Taylor go.

We could have used him in a situation like this.

BARRY RICHARDSON...............LOL

I almost guarantee the reason we lose to the Redskins is because of the lacking talent at LT.

We'll lose because we can't run the ball behind the entirety of this crap line, or pass protect, which is worse on the interior than it is on the edges, because we can't stop the run, and we can't protect the the middle.

To lay the nearly inevitable loss on the tackles is oversimplification on a simpleton level.

I dont think this will be as "inevitable" loss as you.

They did lose to the Lions, and have three offensive linemen out.

I see it as a game that will come down to one or two plays deciding the winner, those may come on sack strips by unblocked defenders.

Not saying Herb was all world or anything, just that he could have helped us in this game more than Barry Richardson or Wade Smith.

He stepped up when called upon last year nicely.

I'm not saying I agreed with the decision to cut Taylor.

I'm saying that this team has far too many holes on it to pin any loss on a single position, or position group.

Our losses are a total team effort.

SNR was Herb Taylor's biggest fan.

And he was the kind of guy it was easy to get behind.

Versatile, hard working, flexible.

When the regime talks about the "right 53", herb taylor, to me, is the exact kind of player they should be talking about to fill out a roster.

That's great, im just saying, he is still out there and available, we could call him up if necessary...

the only issue i have with this, is that after 18 games in the nfl, you would think there was enough "good" tape out there for other teams to look at and give him at least a workout... haven't heard that though...

maybe not all 31 other teams need help at OT, but he hasnt even been looked at as a backup either...

I'm just letting you know why SNR reacted the way he did, and why it's understandable to get behind a guy like that.

Richardson played well in Pass Pro in the preaseason. He was a LT in college. I don't think he's going to get Cassel killed any more than whatever other turd we run out there.

Of all the garbage Olinemen drafted in the 6th and 7th rounds this decade, Herb Taylor showed the most promise and the most talent. I can almost guarantee that he'd be playing better than someone like Goff even at RG. Taylor's been moved around on the line so goddamn much he's probably used to playing at awkward positions.

People can bitch about the Chiefs not drafting any offensive linemen this past season. That's part of it, but the REAL problem was not addressing offensive line ONCE in this entire decade. Here are some guys we just kind of said, "fuck it, maybe they'll work out" to prior to drafting Brandon Albert two years ago:

Darnell Alford, 6th round
Alex Sulfsted, 6th round
Brett Williams, 4th round (this was a legitimate pick. He was just a bust, is all. The staff should have addressed that miss after they cut him.)
Jordan Black, 5th round (the most successful of any offensive lineman we've drafted this decade)
Kevin Sampson, 7th round
Herb Taylor, 6th round
Barry Richardson, 6th round (same draft as Brandon Albert)

THAT'S all we've done, folks. Christ, I'm amazed the line as good as it was for this long. We got lucky on Brian Waters and the health of Will Shields. Otherwise we'd have been screwed a long time ago.

I am guessing it is about the same as Herm going through QBs.
