For anyone who lives in KC and is interested in living off the grid and/or Urban Homesteading, I just found out that you've got a cool resource right near you: Bad Seed Farm (http://www.badseedfarm.com/).

The way I found out is that they'll be hosting (http://www.badseedfarm.com/farm/?page_id=8) Novella Carpenter, the author of Farm City for a workshop on urban chickens, both meat and egg. They'll be showing how to slaughter and butcher chickens as well.

Anyway, thought that some folks here might be interested.

This bad boy sunk to the second page like a lead balloon. One bump, then I'll let it go.

I love the smell of wet chicken feathers in the morning.

Man, I couldn't imagine trying to raise chickens here. Some of the worst smelling animals...

They don't smell that bad if they're not in a CAFO, imo. Same with most animals.

Hey Phin,
Have you heard of any of these types of resources located in Phoenix,AZ? I haven't had a garden since I lived in Iowa due to the harsh climate here but would love to know how.

Maybe you can blame Bob Dole for your Calendar FAIL.

Interesting chicken fact: You can leave an egg from your back yard chicken on the counter for a month and it won't be rotten. No fridge, no problem.
