If someone could find decent data, it would be appreciated. I'd just like everyone to know what W and Cheney deployed to Afghan for 8 years and what Cheney is now whining about.

"The extension of the U.S. buildup means American troop levels in Afghanistan, which increased this month to about 26,000 — the highest of the war — will remain roughly the same until at least spring 2008. A level of 22,000 to 23,000 had prevailed through much of last year."

"President Obama has ordered a significant troop increase in Afghanistan authorizing the deployment of an additional 17,000 troops to take on the resurgent Taliban in southern Afghanistan"

"current number of 38,000"

"Gen. David McKiernan, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, had requested over and over to W as many as four additional combat brigades, a request that equaled 30,000 troops when the enabler troops were added to the mix."

It appears that our force in Afghan, initially 7k US, 12k coalition, grew to the mid 20k during the second term of W's tenure, and ended at 38k. Cheney and W never deployed more than 38k to Afghan when they were in charge. Now, Obama has 38 plus 17 equals 55k US troops in Afghan, and Cheney is complaining about that as McChrystal requests more than McKiernan did.

"When I had the chance, I kept our force in Afghan small against the advice of the general I had in charge. When Obama adds 50% to the largest deployment I had, I criticize him for "dithering" because he isn't putting in more troops ... just like W and I didn't when McKiernan asked us..."

The Hypocritical and Treasonous Liar that is Dick Cheney.
