a. What really impresses me about the Cardinals is their defensive tenacity along the front seven. That wasn't there with any consistency last year under defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast. Ken Whisenhunt had the club fire Pendergast coming off a Super Bowl season, and the renewed emphasis on aggressive pass rush and run-defense paid dividends Sunday night against the Giants. They had Eli Manning on the run all night and forced him into some bad decisions. Arizona clearly has taken control of the NFC West.

I really hope this coaching staff gets reshuffled in the offseason. Pendergast was obviously not our first choice as DC, and it's showing...

I'd argue that even though Clancy sucks, his defense is still better than Gunthers. Thanks gun. I appreciate the record setting ineptitude.

I think we'll see a new coordinator, in the off-season.

Lions - 1 win...vs. Redskins
Chiefs - 1 win...vs. Redskins

Lions (Gun) + Chiefs (Clancy) = Redskins really suck.

Speaking of Gun someone just pointed me to this (http://www.profootballweekly.com/2009/02/08/lions-cunningham-has-lost-his-edge-as-a-coordinato) which pretty much nails him other than I would question his credentials as a "good linebackers coach" too.

"(New Lions defensive coordinator) Gunther Cunningham is past his prime. He's running a dinosaur "D." The last time he got anything done, Derrick Thomas was coming off the edges. He's a good LB coach, but he's lost his edge as a coordinator."

Pendergast = Greg Robinson?

He also had this to say about Cassel:

b. Two bad throws in a row by Matt Cassel with the Chargers-Chiefs game getting interesting in the second half. Gotta make better throws than that.

We waited for weeks for Crenell, and after he declined in order to use the year to rehab his hip replacement (I believe it was a hip replacement), it came down to Gibbs or Pendergast, and Pendergast got the job, probably more due to Haley's familiarity with him as a DC than anything. Gibbs wasn't that good either in New Orleans. Sucked, but that's what happens when the hiring game takes place so late, which is why a lot of Super Bowl coordinators don't end up getting head jobs the year they are in the Super Bowl. And I think McDaniels has shown how critical it can be to a team's success to hire the right coordinators...
