iReport

Uf Tukel of iCruise.com was on the top deck of the midport parking garage at Port Everglades, Ft. Lauderdale as the 225,000-ton Oasis of the Seas arrived for the first time. She was met by a half a dozen helicopters and flotilla of fire boats spaying large jets of water to welcome the ship to her new home.

The Oasis of the Seas is 40% larger than the next largest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean Freedom of Seas and her sisters. She carries 6,600 passengers and over 2000 crew. She is 16 decks tall, 154 feet wide, and almost 1200 feet long. By comparison, Titanic was 46,000 tons; 900 feet long; 90 feet wide; 10 decks high; and carried 1300 passengers and 900 crew.

Nimitz Class is a hair shorter and a little heavier then the Enterprise, depending on where you get the info.

That's insane, but each Nimitz class carrier generates almost 3 times that much power from its nuclear reactors.

That's how they get 90,000 tons to go 30 knots in water. Insane.

FYI, a B-1B bomber can put out 10 times the amount of power then the cruise ship.

Now we are talking about some ****in' muscle.

Ya, do the conversion for thrust to horsepower. I didn't believe it myself.

It takes a lot more energy to propel a 250,000 lb object through the air at 650kts then to push a huge ship through the water.

Back in Aerodynamics and Powerplant Class in flight school, we crunched the numbers and found that a B-1 put out over a Million Horsepower with full afterburner.

No big deal.

I remember in the late 80's at the Wichita Airshow a B-1 flew over the crowd hauling ass, and the announcer states," That's the sound of a million horsepower ladies and gentlemen!".

I initially thought it was bullshit, but sure enough, the math worked out.

You know according to the dimensions in the Bible, the Ark was bigger than Arrowhead. If you take the average size of the average animal, 2 of every animal could easily have fit. I mean 80,000 human animals fit in Arrowhead and that's just in the seating area. Just sayin..........

Power (in HP)= Thrust x Speed(mph) x 5280 divided by 198,000

B1 Power = 140,000 x 700mph x 5280 divided by 198,000

I have been coming up with 261,333 HP.
