The National Football League informed the Chiefs on Wednesday that S Mike Brown has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Week 10 of the 2009 NFL regular season. Brown becomes the first Chiefs safety to win this honor since S Jerome Woods took home AFC Defensive POW accolades in Week Five of ‘97. Brown previously was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week with Chicago in 2001.

Brown (5-10, 207) was a key contributor in the Chiefs 16-10 victory at Oakland (11/15), Kansas City’s seventh consecutive road win against the Raiders. He registered a career-high two interceptions off QB Bruce Gradkowski to go with a personal-best four passes defensed. Brown’s first interception came early in the fourth quarter when he picked off a pass at the 50-yard line. Kansas City turned that takeaway into a K Ryan Succop 31-yard field goal. Brown victimized Gradkowski for a second time at the Kansas City 10-yard line with 0:38 seconds remaining in the game to clinch the victory.

The University of Nebraska product has started all nine games for the Chiefs in 2009, recording 47 tackles (37 solo), a sack (-11.0 yards), two INTs, four passes defensed and one fumbe recovery.

Man, I'd think the Raiders would generate a lot of defensive players of the week with Jamarcus Russel at QB

The second pick was a gift from Bey but the 1st was legit. Hopefully he keeps it going. His performance up to this game has been less than spectacular.

Must have been the slowest defensive week in NFL history.

That, or whoever is responsible for giving the "award" didn't watch the game, and just read the box score.

Do the people who vote on this not actually watch the games? I mean yeah, if you look just at the stats, he looks pretty good for this week. If you actually watched the game, it would be a different story.

Obviously the people who vote for these awards do not actually watch the games instead just look over the stat sheets.

This.

Or...the NFL wants to remind people that the Chiefs are still in the NFL.

LMFAO. HE should also be offensive player of the week for the Raiders for giving them that 60 yard run to set up their TD.

No, I will not. Fuck Mike Brown. He was certainly not the AFC's best defensive player this past week. Two easy picks, ooooh, who gives a shit? /embolism.

He still made the plays and that was a contributing factor in helping his team win the game. That's how I look at it.

Considering the number of interceptions we dropped against the Faiders the first time around, we should be glad someone was able to concentrate and catch the ball on D this time. So I will not make fun of anyone getting two picks, those obviously have not been easy for this team, even when it is thrown right to our guys. Brown could have easily not concentrated, dropped the ball, and kept the Faiders drive alive. That would have been the norm for this defense.

Good for Brown but no one else in the AFC played better?

This will be one of those days Brown will shine. I must say, despite the award coming after a Raiders win (against a backup QB), his INTs came in the fourth quarter. That's always the quarter you want your players to be playing their best at. Brown also sealed the deal with his second INT (he had a lot of those clutch-type INTs in Chicago.)

Does this mean he'll do great against offenses like Pittsburgh, San Diego, Denver and Cincinnati? Most likely not.

For those who feel Brown didn't deserve this, who would you have given it to?

If he had not been late getting over on the last pass he would not have been in position to intercept.

Mitch was saying on the radio in the 4th that this was a situation where we needed Jarrad Page, he always get's the end of the game pic against the Faiders. Then a few minutes later, Brown conjures up the spirit of Page and drives the final nail...

...hey, I'm happy for Brown. It's nice that a Chief is mentioned in the news and he's not spitting on chicks or being cut or suspended. Just enjoy it for crap's sake...
