So we're sitting at the bar Sunday night watching the Pats vs Colts and I asked my friends a question, one that a few of them had to think on for a bit and I hope you do as well.

Name 5 NFL quarterbacks past or present that you think you'd enjoy having a beer with, and by enjoy I mean based on your personality, one of the guys, just shooting the shit and having a cold one over a few laughs and the like. Can be from any team in any era.

Oh, and Joe, I remember giving you money when you were poor, you rich bastard!

If you have a beer with Elway, you'll probably end up getting thrown out of the bar, because he's a lightweight who gets drunk and belligerent after a few drinks.

Joe Namath
Terry Bradshaw
Brett Favre

Good choices except, if Brett Favre were walking down the street towards me, I would cross to the other side.
I am so tired of him, already dreading the offseason and the hype that is inevitible. "Is Brett Favre going to return?" "Brett Favre is thinking about having a press conference." blah, blah, blah.

Elway would walk out on the tab and then leave it for you to pay.

Not to mention weren't there stories of him getting kicked out of bars because he can't hold his licquor?

In watching a lot of those Super Bowl films on NFL Network, I have to say that Trent Dilfer seems like a really good guy. I'd invite him from the modern era, Sammy Baugh from the 30s even though I don't know much about him, Len Dawson who seems like a good conversationalist to represent the 60s, and maybe a guy like Steve Deberg from the 1980s/1990s. That would give me a variety of eras and fame levels.

My fifth guy would be someone from 50s or early 60s NFL, maybe a guy like Y.A. Tittle or Otto Graham, or perhaps a lesser-known guy. I'm not sure which guys from that era are still around.

This presumes that Sammy Baugh is still coherent and alive. I think he is. But it'd be cool to have some quarterback from that era.

I saw Rausch's Todd Collins pick, and I have to say that that's a great idea. I'd like to hear stories not just from the stars, but from guys who were less accomplished but lasted a long time and saw a lot of players. I was tempted to select someone like Vince Evans along those lines, but didn't have room on my roster. Another intriguing one would be George Blanda, who I would have selected if he wasn't a lying, cheating, stinking Raider.

Looking at the lists, I should note that I'd love to have Marino and Montana as my quarterbacks, but I'm not sure I'd want to have dinner with them. Especially Marino.

Among current quarterbacks, I think my list would be:

Matt Ryan
Peyton Manning
Matt Hasselbeck
Matt Cassel, of course

In looking at it, it would get pretty confusing since 3 of them are named Matt. That's a weird coincidence.

#1 - I'd have to go 'ol skool with Slingin Sammy Baugh, just to get my history in perspective.

#2 - Leaping forward to Joe Cool, surpassing even the Great Johnny U... of QB Aces, he's the Red Baron. We were fortunate to call him a Chief.

#3 - J. Willie Namath... Joe Cool ver.1, he broke the Jock/Celebrity barrier in a style never to be duplicated... and none of it was hype, he didnt eke out 'The Gaurantee', he passed his team to it and was a rock 'til his knees gave out & he's gimping about for the Rams. The stories of 60's/70's ribaldry & intrigue this guy could tell...

#4 - Favre. Favre Favre Favre! tired of it yet?... FAVRE!, he's playing ball at 40 like he's 22, i'll always remember the All-Pro QB competition from the 90's where he was totally cracking his peers And me up with a stub toe walk & throwing motion imitation of John Elway. This guy IS football, dont like it? lump it.

#5 - Lenny Dawson - take a look at his td/pick ratios throught the first 8 years, a man that earned his way to greatness... Super Bowl Winner Kansas City, nuff said.

I could almost FAINT thinking of the surreal coolness of tossing back beers & shots with this Fab Five.
