More and more it looks like Andy Studebaker will be starting in the Chiefs defense on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Starting OLB Mike Vrabel spent another day out of practice because of a left knee injury. It’s doubtful the Chiefs will go with Vrabel for this game.
And th means the 24-year old product of Division III Wheaton College will be in the Chiefs defense. Studebaker got playing time in the second half last week and held down the position quite well.
“You are never as good as you think you are and never as bad as you think you are,” Studebaker said after watching the tape of the Oakland game. “I left the game and thought I fit in the defense pretty well, but at the same time I made some mistakes too. This week, I’m working on minimizing those.
“It was game time-situation type stuff, things I thought I saw, but didn’t happen.”
Vrabel has not been ruled out of Sunday’s game, but he spent another day in the rehab area and not taking part in practice. He was joined by RG Andy Alleman and RB Dantrell Savage.
ILB David Herron returned to work after missing last week’s work and Wednesday’s practice because of a knee injury. Whether he’s recovered enough to get back on the field and contribute on special teams remains to be seen.
Alleman is dealing with a right knee injury and Savage has a sprained left ankle. Both figure to be listed as questionable when the team releases its official NFL injury report on Friday.
The Chiefs added LB Justin Rogers to their practce report on Thursday as limited participation because of a thigh injury.
For the Steelers. both DE Travis Kirschke (calf) and SS Troy Polamalu (knee) did not take part in Pittsburgh’s practice on Thursday afternoon.
