View Full Version : Computers Yahoo! Or Google?

I know Google is the common choice. But I like my Yahoo! I've been on the internet since late 1994. I asked my friend then how you knew where to go, and he said, "Dude, you have to use Yahoo!"

To this day I've stayed loyal. I try Google but their page sucks. Yahoo! is the only way I get my news or learn any trivial crap about what jobs are hot or what foods will help you live longer (I actually like that stuff, lol).

So, are you a Yahooligan or a Googler?

I haven't used Yahoo for anything other than fantasy sports for years.

I use yahoo mail, but if I'm looking for something I use google. Yahoo misses stuff that google doesn't.

I was the 25,614th person on Yahoo so I've been there since the start. I use Google for search, calendar, maps. But my mail and homepage are Yahoo.

Yahoo is fricken terrible. Try google, its so much better. And as far as the page being boring, sometimes less is more.

Beyond that, in IE, it comes with a search bar, you can set google as your default search engine, and search directly from that, never having to go to google.com.

I use both a bunch. Yahoo is good for so many of my purposes it would have a slight preferred status.

I'm a big fan if iGoogle. Kind of like "my yahoo" in that you can customize the hell out of it.

I'd have to say google. I used to use yahoo for most everything other than email, but now I use igoogle/gmail/google voice, etc, etc. The only reason's I really use yahoo any more is that I like their sports section and it allows me to control my uverse remotely.

What about people who like to google her yahoo? If you do it right, you hear this "BING!" It's great.

I remember webcrawler, haha. That's what I used to search for porn on my parents' computer when I was like 14 years old. Good times, good times.

LOL.... anybody remember astalavista.com??

That was the hax0r shiznit once upon a time... it sprang up as a hacker friendly offshoot of altavista about the same time. Back when being a hacker was cool.. I just checked and it's actually still up...

I've messed around with them, but always go back to Google. There are blind search sites that will show you 3 sets of results before revealing the search engine (Google, Yahoo, or Bing). I've played with that and I would pick Google about half the time and Yahoo the other half.

I get frustrated with Google Maps, but I'll go to MapQuest or Bing, and they always have the same issue or it's worse.

I have an Android phone, so it's hard not to integrate your life with Google. I use iGoogle for news feeds and gtalk.... gmail, search history, calendar, etc; all automatically sync between my laptop and phone.... and there's always cool stuff coming out of Google Labs.

My wife still searches with yahoo, and it drives me freaking nuts. She constantly has to get me to help her find shit. I"ll say, "It's the first fucking thing that shows up when you search for X." She'll say, "Not when I search for it." I go and look, and sure enough she's got shitty ass yahoo open as her search engine.

Yeah, it scares me how much I've integrated with google. Started running igoogle as my home page, and I hardly freaking leave it half the time I'm online. I just open up iGoogle, and most of my web content has been delivered to me.

I voted Yahoo because my home page is My Yahoo. I do use Google quite often for searching, maps, etc. In reality there should of been an option for both.

Throw in the gmail gadget, google reader gadget, calendar, tasks, twitter, facebook, and google news (customizable tabs allow you to generate news around key topics you're interested in), and it's a pretty powerful little interface.

LYCOS, Bitches! And I can't use iGoogle cause I don't store cookies on my computer. I surf the web in porn mode, lol. I don't know if storing cookies is really a risk, but I've heard certain companies track your visits to their site with them and stuff like that. Nothing serious, just bothersome.

I hardly even use my credit card online, though I'm aware the internet is just as safe as it being rung up as a POS at a store.

I prefer google for general searches.
I just use yahoo for groups.
Some old sports board games made by avalon hill that are discontinued are alive and well in some yahoo groups. There are members who still make yearly team charts based on original game design. That is one of my fav freebies on the interwebz.

Cookies are harmless. Back in the day, they were worrisome because web browser security wasn't anything like it is today. But as long as your browser is up to date and you're not using something like Netscape 2, cookies are completely harmless.
