Pearl Jam.

Making half-assed albums for years and mostly just finding ways to tune me out.

Honestly, I think their latest releases (can't speak for the whole album) are every bit as good as what I heard on 10.

More abruptly, the honesty and emotion are finally back. It appears Eddie has given up on being Bono II and started writing music again.

Blessed are we all.

You compare stuff like Evenflow and Garden to The End and Just Breathe and I think you'll find a slower and more mature PJ but more of a return to PJ than previous efforts. And yeah, they're older now...

Just check out Just Breathe. (http://video.whyy.org/video/1333048905/)

why? I'm not trying to hijack, just a question, while we're on the subject of music.

Not a FAN.

Why, something here remind you of one of their tunes?...

Fucking terrible.

That song is the main reason I didn't buy the album day one.

I can now see it for what it is: one part of a deeper attempt at introspection and a most-life (the new 40 term) crisis.

PJ is my favorite band. I love 'em.

Backspacer (the new album) ranks about #4 (out of 9) in their catalogue for me.

Just Breathe is the best song they've written since the mid 90s, IMO.

Other songs from Backspacer I'd recommend:
Got Some
Gonna See My Friend
The End
Amongst The Waves
Unthought Known
Speed of Sound

It's clearly their first attempt in years to WRITE (without political or $$$ motivations) that come off as honest as 10.

As good?

Eh, it's different. It's not the same. There's more heart here and less throb. Hard for young ears to like...

Definately the first one w/o political motivations in a long while.

I don't know that monitary motivations have ever really factored into PJ's career. I can't think of anything this band has done "for the money."

It's definately as honest as Ten. It's just a different sentiment. The band is in a different place, but this group of songs is born from the same pure creative space that birthed Ten and Vitalogy. It's not as "good" as either of those albums, IMO, but it's definately just as honest.

My favorite thing Eddie Vedder has ever done:

Hard Sun is a great cover (as the Into The Wild Soundtrack is likewise, amazing). Eddie knocked that one out of the park.

Oddly enough, the original artist is sueing Eddie over the cover because he changed a line. He's just pissed that Eddie's line is better. ; )
