You may want to upgrade your browser.
You're using an old version of Internet Explorer to browse Facebook right now. Facebook will work better for you if you upgrade or switch to another browser.

Upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx)
Switch to Firefox (http://www.firefox.com/)
Switch to Safari (http://www.apple.com/safari/)
Switch to Google Chrome (http://www.google.com/chrome)

Anyway, the wife says go ahead and down load it.
Me, being "malignant dumb with computers" figure I should asked a bunch of smart azz'z on a football message board for some advice :D (cuz lord knows there's quite a few of you real computer type smart folks on here.

My question, is this a "plug and play" type of thing where I hit a few icones and it does the rest for me?

I don't know anyhting about firefox or why it's better to use or what ever , and me personally i'd just as son buy a Mac over this Toshiba notebook.

Advice welcome,:)
smart azz remarkes expected,
genuine help would be much appreicated.

IE = Fail,IMO.IE 8 does seem a lil better than previous versions though.
Fire fox is a much better web browser, again,IMO,but I mainly use Safari.
As far as the notebook comment,I'm a Mac user, but I do keep a updated PC just so I stay up with windows. It all depends on your needs, and what you expect out of the computer. There's tons of threads on here about the whole Mac vs Pc thing.

Get Firefox. I just dont know why anyone would want IE over Firefox.

Changing laptops right now wasnt what I had in mind, (just tossed it out there) but the wife and I are descided were going Mac with our new office machiene when we get one later this spring.

I guess I asked the question the wrong way.
Let me try again

Is there much advantage downloading IE8 (I have XP on lap top) over my IE7 and if so is it just a matter of clicking buttons to do so?

I just don't want to have to un-install shit, save to disks, then re program the damn thing.
Would this down load just re-quire a re-boot when done?

Never used firefox or anything else, all we do is pay bills, I play highdescent.com, come in here, check email, add pic's to my web site or facebook and surf through google
Neither the wife and I have huge computer requirements. Thus the 4 year old lap top

there is always a risk when installing a new IE imo so i wouldn't upgrade to IE8 unless you need to

yes, i believe you have to reboot after downloading/install IE8

I am in the web hosting business, If you MUST use I.E. use I.E. 8 -

My Professional recommendation is ANYTHING but I.E.

I have all of them Installed but pick one that you like:

http://www.google.com/chrome
http://www.getfirefox.com
http://www.opera.com

or even..

http://www.apple.com/safari/download/

but get away from I.E. if you can help it - and if you cant upgrade to 8

Like I said, i'm really not savey with this suff. I kninda like the google chrome "loads in seconds"

Now i'l ask a few really n00b questions.
I'm assuming all I do is hit download, follow the steps, then turn off and reboot?
If so great!!
Do I need to back up anyting first? (the wife does that stuff)

By changing the browser do I lose my favorites and stuff like that? I really don't know the difference between a browser (I always said it's the thing that lets me surf) and whats part of the drive.

You must not do much web design or be on the cutting edge of internet development (ie. HTML5, CSS 2 and 3).

Hint: if a website looks funny, it's probably IE, not the site.

Just found that out.

Took the plunge and downloaded Google Chrome.

There's not really any reason to NOT upgrade IE8 to replace an older version. Even if you don't use it, a lot of underlying Windows components do, and it's got better security and speed than 7 or (especially) 6.

Yeah, I'd recommend Chrome instead for your everyday browsing, but that's still not a reason not to upgrade IE.
