“You don’t go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don’t blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you’re trying to save for college. You prioritise. You make tough choices.”

Oh yeah, heading for Vegas is the financially responsible thing to do if you don't have the money...Good grief, I wouldn't vote for BO now either, but some of you guys have simply jumped the shark with your vitriol.

I dont think the issue is poor folk running off to a high end desert vacation. The issue is LV has the same need to survive as any other city. And being a tourist destination it probably hurts when the head bozo slams the place a second time.

Obo has failed to realize that there are 90% still working. And that 90% is the basis for any recovery. Those people have to earn taxable wages and spend taxable money on stuff so cities counties and states can have state tax revenue.

The head doofus does not get it. He really fundamentally believes govt makes economy run. He may be smart. He may be brilliant. But he is a dumbass at the same time.

Truth be told, Vegas is not a sustainable city. Never has been.

It will certainly get worse as oil and water prices rise even tho the recession remains steady state.

So did the mayor of Vegas...granit, I don't think what Barry said was all that bad. I know what his intent was when he said it. But, because the messiah ripped on Vegas one year ago in a major speech about financial firms taking junkets to Vegas - its only natural for the people of Nevada and Vegas to want to push back against any negative words or feelings that comes out of the mouth of the PRESIDENT or his administration. The messiah needs to remember that words mean things.

For him to give advise against risking our kids future by spending foolishly is sickening. He pulled the same crap with business jets using the term in derogatory fashion trying vilify anyone who owned or would buy one. He and Nancy continued this attack until the industry hit lows matching or exceeding 9/11. At this point we just have to hope we can recover from the damage inflicted from this one term embarrassment~

Oh wait, he didnt say that.
A few years ago before the housing crisis the wife and I went to get a mortgage and came up with a number per month that we thought we could handle. So we go to the bank with our current bills and the rep puts them in a spreadsheet on the puter and then spits a number that was twice as high as we thought we could afford. We didn't do it through them because we thought they were clueless. My sister is in real estate and told us they always do that. They think you can afford a payment much higher than rational people who know what they can afford. So I could see alot of people going through that same process and thinking "If the bank thinks we can afford it then we can"

FWIW, I think the quote is being taken out of context. I thought he was giving a speech about how the government needs to cut back (fat fuckin' chance) and was giving an example of how people behave when they are a little tight on their budgets...they don't buy a boat when they are trying to save, etc.

Honestly, I detest the dude, but to me the running that the Right is doing with this comment is really stupid. The Vegas comment I can see, simply because he's demonizing the place. BUt the overall comment was not bad.

I can see both sides. For me it is no big deal and is only common sense, but for Las Vegas it represents a negative stigma that is being propagated by the President of the US. That is a negative stigma of international proportions that does directly negatively effect their local economy.

The Govt. is the last bunch I want lecturing me on how to manage my money. When I overspend its not like I can go to my boss and say " Sorry Boss the budgets a little out of whack your going to have to up the pay" And I certainly can't go and print up some more money to spend.

There is so much waste in the national budget it makes me sick. Everyone of those dipshits in Washington should be thrown out on their asses.

I think the case is that he feels the money you spend in Vegas should be actually paid out of your pocket to his campaign fund or be taxed on it. What is his is his and what is yours he thinks should be his too.
