I love to ski and snowboard, and these people that do the extreme skiing and boarding just baffle me with their huge balls (and female equivalent). In many cases, if you fall......you're dead.

On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being not so extreme, and 10 being extremely extreme, I give that a 9.5.

I just don't see how they are able to plan their path so carefully with all that certain death around them. They must have insane control of their bodies.

I actually thought about Laika, and think PETA should protest.

However, given the topic, I don't think Laika qualifies because he/she didn't really know what was going on. They just jangled the keys to the rocket and Laika ran over hoping to go for a ride. I think self-awareness is a key to this thread.

It's interesting that we immediately default to physical risk.

Probably the biggest "balls of steel" moves are things like going after the mafia as a prosecutor, or whistleblowing on corruption. Those things can be more brutal in the long run than gravity or bullets, because in those cases the battles can wage for years.

You give her too little credit. She knew... oh, she knew. You can see the stoic pride in her eyes...

Plus, she was the first female in space. There BEFORE a male. That's equal rights, my friend.

This guy has probably already come up in this thread, but he's got the biggest balls of steel ever.

Dean Potter. The sad fact, though, is that he -will- die in a climbing accident before it's all over:

<embed id=VideoPlayback src=http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docid=-4832527121139830698&hl=en&fs=true style=width:400px;height:326px allowFullScreen=true allowScriptAccess=always type=application/x-shockwave-flash> </embed>

This is his solo ascent of El Cap. He uses aid in a few places. Rumor is that he's planning a free solo of El Cap fairly soon (no aid/protection anywhere).

This is the kind of thing where I wonder why people did this. You're in a beautiful, amazingly scenic area, but you want to navigate it in a way where you can't even enjoy it and you're just relieved that it's over. Just doesn't seem like something that would even be satisfying.

You began and ended the thread in one post. Nothing tops Kittinger. It took 1 guy to pack his 'chute & 25 guys to pack his balls.

I couldn't. Too fucking windy up there, which amplifies the insane height.

My wife, who is not afraid of heights, got spooked on the observation deck of that damn thing.

Not me. I'm deathly afraid of heights. If I needed the money that badly, I'd rather blow guys in back alleys than climb buildings.

How in the heck does that guy not get the living shit beat out of him?

Maybe cuz they are all actors. The "amazing racist" is done tongue in cheek, too bad many of his fans don't realize it.

Yep. Empire State Building.

Nope.

Lunch Atop a Skyscraper (New York Construction Workers Lunching on a Crossbeam) is a famous photograph taken in 1932 by Charles C. Ebbets during construction of the RCA Building (renamed as the GE Building in 1986) at Rockefeller Center.

Yep. Empire State Building.

nope. Rockefeller Center. Just went to Top of the Rock and when you first walk in they have that same picture you sit on a bench with a green screen and they take your picture. When you get done and get your picture it looks like you were sitting on a steel frame way up in the air, like in that pic. i am sure they built it the same way for the Empire, but that pic is in the rock.
