This is his Tuskegee Airmen movie hes been talking about making for about 20 years.....

Say what you will about George Lucas, but when the man sets his mind to something, you can bet he's going to get it done one way or another. Such is the case with Red Tails, the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American pilots to fly in a combat squadron during WWII, as an inside Secret Squirrel source told me that Lucas (serving as executive producer) was very displeased with TV director Anthony Hemingway's work, and is taking it upon himself to direct some massive reshoots. With these re-shoots come some hefty re-writes which I'm told completely change the main characters and their storylines.
Principal photography wrapped in November last year with Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Bryan Cranston starring in a fictional story of the historic and heroic exploits of America's first all black aerial combat unit in WWII. While the film is supposed to be in post-production right now, instead, Lucas' producing partner Rick McCallum is said to be pouring over dailies right now, trying to salvage whatever footage they can from Hemingway's work in order to figure out exactly how much will need to be re-shot. Combine that massive undertaking with an attempt to keep from going over budget if at all possible (even though this is a Lucasfilm project), and McCallum should be feeling quite a bit of stress about this project.

No word on how soon these re-shoots will be taking place (or specific details on the re-writes behind them) or how much this will delay its release. Either way, this doesn't bode well for Red Tails or Hemingway, who might find some difficulty getting more work in the future. On the flipside, Lucas hasn't exactly been at the top of his game as of late, but maybe directing something outside of the Star Wars universe will allow him to show the side that struggled to get films like American Graffiti out. Like the Winter Warlock in that old claymation "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," I hope he has just a little magic left to put on the big screen.

I think I'll stick with the HBO movie.

Can't wait for the required "Yipee" in the script. I hate that man as a director.

More of an indication of a shitty writer rather than director. Though as a director he gets basically nothing out of talented actors.

At least we know the CGI will be good!

Seems like the story would have made more of an impact in the 70's but Lucas makes it, I will watch it. Well done dogfights...yeah I'm in.

I am ok with his writing. His directing is awful though and for the very reason you stated.

This report is untrue. Lucas isn't doing anything other than producing. There were planned re-shoots in March and April, mostly of cockpits, closeups, etc.

I heard he rushed to put in crappy dialogue, and a cute furry puppy sidekick for one of the airmen that takes over the plane and shoots down a Nazi when the pilot gets knocked out.

Not really. Fuck Darth Lucas.

The '90s HBO film about the subject was excellent. I'll rewatch that and not give this prick any more of my money.

This comes out in 12 days and hasn't been advance-screened for critics yet. Another big red flag. Along with the time of year it's being released. And the fact that the creative force behind it has fucked up everything he's touched for the past 15 years.

I agree, January movies have long been a dumping ground and this most likely won't be Any good. But for whatever reason, January box office has gotten hot over the past 5 to 10 years.

You know what we need? Darth Lucas and Michael Bay to team up on something. Can you imagine the epic suck that would result from that?

SPACE 'SPOLSIONS!!!!

I was thinking an epic docudrama about the Revolutionary War. In the opening scene, a young George Washington single-handedly kills 100 chain-saw (hand-crank powered, of course) wielding Indians Matrix-style, but the last one (under secret orders from the King) kills his father with a lucky tomahawk throw before he goes down. Washington uses the tomahawk to angrily chop down the cherry tree and swears revenge against the evil English Indian spy people!

It would be epic!

It looks like one that would be awesome to watch Ironically. Now they have some Dubstep remix on the trailors. I full expect the piston engine planes to have some sort of afterburners. It looks like an NBA game tied with WWII right down to them huddling up.
