Valve Confirms Portal 2 For This Holiday
Sequel set for this year.
by Jim Reilly

March 5, 2010 - Valve confirmed to IGN this morning that Portal 2 is coming and is set for release this holiday. Valve did not say what platforms it would be released on, however.

Valve has been teasing the sequel for the past week, updating the first Portal on its Steam client with new Morse code sound files, and even a new ending sequence.

We'll keep you updated if we hear anything new.

Thought this deserved its own thread.

<small>[Game Informer (http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/03/05/Portal-2-For-Two.aspx)]</small>

Today's big reveal of Portal 2 (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/portal-2) as next month's Game Informer cover did lots of us in the maniacal excitement department, but little for us in the hard facts department. But now, between Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/portal-2-due-out-this-christmas) being told by Valve that the game is heading to Xbox 360 and PC, and Game Informer's reveal (http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/03/05/Portal-2-For-Two.aspx) that the sequel features a "two-player co-op mode [with] its own campaign [featuring] two new playable characters" (not to mention that it's set to release at "full retail price") we're ... well ... we're still kinda hurting for more news. The most important question of the moment, though: Can we have it right now? Please? We know you said this holiday (http://store.steampowered.com/news/3559/), but what if we say pretty please? With cherries on top?

Uhhhh whaaaa? Full retail price? Surely they are NOT going to release this game at $50. It had better be A LOT LONGER than the first one if they do.

Downloaded Portal for free from Steam... fucking awesome!

I wish we could see somebody take a game like the Original Halo, and mesh it with Portal.

It would be awesome to play on teams where one player on each team has a portal gun... would be fun to shoot a portal on the floor in front of enemies and drop them into an ambush or into a pit or something in a CTF match. It is such a cool concept it should be added to some kind of FPS somewhere!

I thought Steam made the original game free for the sole reason of promoting the Steam Platform but it seems to be a combination of both.

Love them or hate them, smart company.

Even after becoming absolutely huge, Valve still seems to care A LOT about the community. I love them and I love Newell. One of the good guys in the gaming industry for sure.
