Woodie Dixon, officially referred to as the Chiefs General Counsel/Director of Salary Cap, will be heading to Walnut Creek, California and joining the Pac-10 Conference as the league’s new general counsel and vice president of business affairs.
Dixon originally joined the Chiefs in 2004 as the club’s manager of compensation/general counsel. His primary responsibilities included Kansas City’s salary cap planning and strategy, as well as assisting the front office in the negotiation of player contracts. He also had a hand in the legal affairs of the Chiefs business office as well.
Dixon is scheduled to begin his new job with the Pac-10 on April 15th. He joins an overhaul of the conference, which has seen five new hires over a six week period, including positions of deputy commissioner and COO.
Previously, Dixon has worked for the NFL Office in New York as well as for practices in Chicago and Minneapolis. He also taught Sports Law as an Adjunct Professor at Washburn Law School in Topeka, KS.
Dixon’s departure, however, doesn’t leave the Chiefs without an in-house legal expert. Kansas City hired former Cleveland Browns (http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/) legal counsel Trip MacCracken as the Director of Football Administration on February 25th (http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/article-2/CLARK-NAMED-STRENGTH-COACH-MacCRACKEN-HIRED-AS-DIR-OF-FB-ADMINISTRATION/f24e4cac-cb63-469a-88fc-724656e3e039). Like Dixon, MacCracken has a history of salary cap expertise and contract negotiation skills.
