He beat the number one seed to do it, after barely winning in the semis, too.

I found it hard to believe that the IVY league had two national champions, and Cornell took second overall. The Big XII finished 3,4,5 in the standings. The heavyweight match was pretty lame, but the rest were pretty exciting to watch.

It sure was nice of Brands and the Iowa Tech Hokeyes to combine two teams for 3 years....we should now see if he's a Gable or Zalesky. Im guessing the latter, though the development of McDonough has been quite impressive

3 of those 4 transfers were IOWA high school wrestlers who only went to Tech because of Brands.

The Brands brothers have been apart of how many NCAA titles, both personal and team championships? You're questioning his recruiting ability? Tom Brands recruited all 4 of those, who you're not crediting him for now.

I'm sure you're chiding Cael Sanderson's brother for transfering to Penn State with him too.

Oh....and Iowa State had 2 (TWO) 2010 NCAA wrestling champions to add to Iowa's list.

Nice tournament for Askren and happy that he was finally a champion. You could tell that he was cutting a lot of weight. Dropped from 197 to be a champ. Knew that he was never going to get past Varner. How about 2 freshman in the finals at 125. Looking forward to watching those 2 wrestle 3 more years. Also the Dake kid from Cornell impressed. 141 # national champ as a true freshman. Pretty impressive to say the least. We will see how good a coach Brands is next year. Losing that senior class is going to be hard to replace.

149 # final was a disappointment. Metcalf sounded like a tool in his post match interview.

I was watching the wrestling on ESPNU & they had Ben Askren doing some of the commentary....he was actually pretty good at it or better than Blatnick. Maybe he'll be the next MU grad to go into sports announcing on tv.

PSU was not in a position to compete for a title, redshirting some of their top wrestlers. Cyler only had 1 year of eligibility left--this year--not 3. ISU coach Kevin Jackson released Cyler, unlike Virginia Tech did.

the Brands are/were great wrestlers. They just happen to be complete jerks that try to intimidate refs/coaches with their notable disabilities---down syndrome and angry dwarfism. Wrestlers like Metcalf seem to buy into it. I don't know how they have all of those wreslers in 9.9 scholarships...but no way Iowa gets all of Metcalf, LeClere, Slaton, Erekson, Keddy, Borschel, Beatty, Morningstar, Dennis (all from the 2005 high school class) had Brands been hired earlier. He essentially combined the two best recruiting classes--one being Zalesky's-- for a nice title run. That's not exactly impressive considering a starting lineup only consists of 10 wrestlers. Unlike last year though, Iowa deserved the 2010 title for how well they performed. Props to Brands for getting 5 in the finals
