Ideally? Meh. The formula has been proven - you have to cheat to win.

I'd let Hill walk if we could bring in another package deal, or even a fresh connection to an AAU program with better players.

A condition if things were up to me.

We are on some good prospects but the past few we've been on, we've struck out.

I imagine we will settle in to getting the 3/4 star players and every once in awhile striking gold and getting a 5 star.

Since 1977....

Since the inception of the McDonald's All-American team, only twice has a US collegiate team won a national championship without having a former McDonald's All-American on its roster (Kentucky in 1978 and Maryland in 2002).

So we're all in agreement that Frank Martin > Bill Self.
Um, no.

I'm sure you were just joking, but that's just the excuse I need to go on a little rant about the Bill Self haters.

It's certainly stylish for the Bill Self haters to pile on after the worst loss of his coaching career, but the fact is that the KU basketball program is easily one of the top 5 in the nation right now, and Bill Self deserves a lot of credit for that.

Here are the facts about Bill Self. He's a GREAT recruiter. He wins 82% of his games. That's pretty damn good. In fact, that's a higher winning percentage than John Wooden had at UCLA, it's a higher winning percentage than Roy Williams had at KU, it's a higher winning percentage than Mike Krzyzewski has at Duke, it's a higher winning percentage than Jim Calhoun has at uConn, it's a higher winning percentage than Jim Boeheim has at Syracuse, it's a higher winning percentage than Bobby Knight had at Indiana, and it's a higher winning percentage than Dean Smith had at North Carolina.

It's not like being the coach at KU guarantees that you'll be a big winner. Don't believe that? Just think about the Ted Owens era at KU. Owens was a good coach, and he won 65% of his games. There is a helluva difference between winning 65% of your games and 82% of them. In a 30 game season, that's the difference between going 19-11 and 24-6.

Bill Self is a great coach. He wins more games than any other coach in the game today.

He obviously isn't perfect. He should have gone to the full-court press MUCH earlier against Northern Iowa, and he should have kicked his team's butt and made them play harder this year against the teams they didn't take seriously. And in retrospect, he probably should have told Xavier Henry to take a hike when he started talking about backing out of his commitment to go to KU. I think Elijah Johnson could have put up the same numbers this year that Xavier did, and he'll be around a lot longer.

But the fact is that Bill Self is one of the best in the business. There isn't a coach around who KU could hire who would be better than Bill Self.

I'll say this. Self's KU teams are tougher than Roy's.

Having that said, I'd take Roy's Carolina break over Self's Hi-Low offense. I've never liked the hi-low crap he runs. That's just me. I don't think he's a bad coach for it, I don't know who I'd want to replace Self at Kansas if there is anyone at all.

HiLo is just a fraction of what he runs. It's not like our offense has been bad... EVER. If anything, you can blame Bill for not being able to motivate his team to play "weak" teams like their life depended on it. You saw what happened at the end against NIU once the kids started to care. A little too late, fellas.

if KU fans don't want to be reminded of that, then they should quit saying how little the regular season means and how it's "all about the tournament". The reason KSU fans give so much shit is because of how much KU fans have piled on over the years.

Before this weekend, I would have been fine with Martin winning this award, but then I heard what the Butler coach, Brad Stevens, has been able to do over the past 3 years and was mightily impressed. He's 32-4 this year and 88-14 over the past 3 years, including some wins over pretty bigtime competition like Ohio State.

BTW, I realize that Stevens may not even be in the running, but if Stevens isn't a finalist, he should have been.

This has been said a million times over: you had a better a season, even though our team was better (see 3-0 record). I mean, do you understand how ****ing dominating it is to beat a team THREE times in one season?

Yes, I am a KU fan and I think that the tournament is 1000 times more important than regular season. I don't give a shit about the B12 tournament, I put more stock in the B12 conference record. The 33 wins we had amounted to NOTHING in the end and I see the season as a failure. I would have seen it as a failure if we had lost in the Elite Eight, too. I probably wouldn't be too happy if had lost in the FF or the Final either.

Oh, and how exactly have we been piling on for years regarding the regular season vs the tournament?
