I would say instead of having a heart attack about not taking Clausen, that it's a pretty clear indication that Charlie Weis isn't a huge fan of Jimmy Clausen and there's a huge red flag there for me.

I had him going after the 50th pick in the draft. This is disapponting. All those quality players and we reach for a fucking player that doesn't have the measurables or the numbers.

You've lost my compliments for your fluke pick of Berry.

So far, you have made 1 good pick in the first 2 drafts. Good job, bitch.

Following this on Twitter, sounds like the Eagles wanted McCluster, so the Chiefs pulled the trigger right before them...

eazyb81
04-23-2010, 04:35 PM
Okay, if Weis doesn't want Clausen, then something's wrong with Clausen.

I would've been fine with Spiller in Round 1, so I'm fine with McCluster in Round 2 assuming he can catch and return kicks/punts. I know little about him. I think I would've preferred Tate or Cody, but oh well.

Pretty much. There is no other explanation.

Trust me, I saw this kid play LIVE 3 times last year including against Berry and the Vols and he is a BEAST. I like the pick a lot.

WTF ever.

Draft Tate and have a WR and KR.

We need a 2nd/3rd WR more than a 3Rd HB....:shake:

The first time McCluster catches a pass in the flat and takes it 80 yards to the house you will all love his chicken-legged ass.

eazyb81
04-23-2010, 04:38 PM
If they wanted a returner why didn't they take Benn? At least he has a position.

Obviously they're looking for more of a gamebreaker than Benn with this pick. McCluster certainly isn't a traditional WR or RB but he is an explosive player that can take it to the house at any moment, something our offense was definitely missing.

04-23-2010, 04:38 PM
Yea here comes Cody at the next pick.

What in the fuck was that. Running back? Did not think there was a way of fucking that pick up.

Suck it pioli

tk13
04-23-2010, 04:38 PM
Yeah, the Eagles wanted this guy to help replace Westbrook, I'm assuming. We tried to one up them, and I guess we hope that all these other guys keep falling.

I think I'd rather have Cody... but the only positive out this is we didn't reach for a DE or something. We at least reached for someone who has shown playmaking ability.

'Hamas' Jenkins
04-23-2010, 04:38 PM
Weis doesn't make the picks. Pioli is a fat fucking cunt who has hitched his wagon to a 28 year old who was the 44th best QB in the NFL in 2009.

This isn't about Clausen. It's about that fat Peter Principle fuck making 5 million a year right now.

Dexter Fucking McCluster: worst pick, relative to the value on the board, in Chiefs history.

Short Leash Hootie

We basically took a guy without a true position a RB/WR returner mix, that's nice he's a nice weapon on a good team.

Our team making that pick is like putting the best stereo system ever in your car from 1973 that is rusted out.

tboss27

I would say instead of having a heart attack about not taking Clausen, that it's a pretty clear indication that Charlie Weis isn't a huge fan of Jimmy Clausen and there's a huge red flag there for me.

I disagree, Pioli doesn't give two cents what Weis thinks cause it's Pioli's team. I didn't want us to take Clausen, but I also don't think a situational player who is 5'8" is a good call. Pioli was never going to take Clausen because Cassel hasn't had enough time.

I am not a huge fan of this pick... but is Sproles worth a second round pick? This guy has that kind of swivel in his hips. He will make defenders look silly. It is about making the team better, and this guy does it right away. He will be a good returner, and be a great slot WR/receiver out of the backfield.

As I said, I am not a huge fan of this pick.... but I am not going to kill it either. The Chiefs need playmakers and they got two in the first two picks.

'Hamas' Jenkins

So he's Percy Harvin:

Percy Harvin didn't run a fucking 4.6, he was 3 inches taller, 30 pounds heavier, and he caught a hell of a lot more passes.

Hell, Arrelious fucking Benn was faster than McCluster and he has another 40+ pounds.

Golden Tate was bigger than McCluster, much faster, and has played in the offense for 3 years.

The only thing I can think about this pick is he has speed. Must of just had a bad day at the combine.

McCluster possesses elite speed and explosiveness for the running back position. Has outstanding initial quickness needed to get through the hole. Displays impressive receiving skills and can be a threat deep down the field. Feisty player who loves to compete. Has dangerous elusiveness in space, is a terror on the perimeter, and is a true home run threat.

McCluster does not have the necessary size and strength to carry the load at next level. Could struggle with his inside running but was willing and productive in college. Blocking is an area of concern due to his lack of size and strength necessary to pick up blitzing linebackers. May not break many tackles.

Then at 36 they draft the player the team who the drafturbators have deemed the model of NFL drafting were going to pick, and because the Chiefs drafted him, Pioli is the biggest fucking idiot in the NFL. You guys are complete ass holes. Ever here of increasing the talent level of your team? If this guy is this good he will either help the team A LOT or will bring back value from someone else. Take a fucking chill pill!!!

Pioli reached. Sounds more like McCluster's last stand. 8 rushing TDs in 4 seasons is hardly a playmaker, IMO.

Uh, those 8 rushing TDs were last season alone. He has 15 rushing TDs total and 7 receiving TDs.

That's ignoring the fact TDs is a retarded way to judge his ability at the next level.

He was a projected 2nd round pick

Interview with Dexter McCluster at the Senior Bowl (01.25.10)

SCOUT'S TAKE

Pros: Much like Percy Harvin, McCluster is an all-purpose offensive threat that can hurt you running the ball out of multiple formations, as well as lining up at quarterback, receiver and return man. The obvious difference between the two is that Harvin is a much bigger and powerful player, whereas the 5’7’ 160-pound McCluster is a tiny performer, which defenders have a hard time seeing in traffic. Years ago, more NFL teams would’ve shied away from taking a shot on such a small athlete, but as the pro game has slowly evolved to where offenses are now incorporating elements of the Wildcat and various read-option plays, McCluster has some definite value.

Cons: As a receiver, the diminutive weapon has terrific hands to catch the ball away from his body, but might have some problems getting off the line of scrimmage in traditional sets. His size may make him difficult to see on deeper routes, which probably makes McCluster a more viable option on short screens and quick out routes. His ball security has also been suspect when running in traffic. McCluster tends to hold the ball in the wrong arm (opposite sideline) when running down the sidelines. Durability issues do exist here with the senior, who has missed time with shoulder and ankle injuries.

Our View: At the next level, the electrifying playmaker projects as a jack-of-all-trades role player who will be at his best with limited snaps. His best assets are his fearlessness in how he quickly reads his blocks and attacks the middle of a defense along with his fluid running style and quickness in and out of his breaks. His second gear in the open field make him a big play threat. If used properly, the little Rebel can excel in a Leon Washington-type role.

2009 Preseason: McCluster is the definition of an all-purpose wide receiver; he can catch, rush, and return kicks. He is immensely fast and agile and shows excellent playmaking ability. McCluster and Florida’s Percy Harvin were the only players to rank in the top ten in the SEC in rushing yards, receiving yards, receptions, and all-purpose yards. McCluster led the Rebels in rushing with 655 yards and in rushing touchdowns with six. He was also tied for the team lead in receptions with 44, while gaining 625 yards and a score. He finished the season seventh in the SEC in all-purpose yards with 98.5 per game. The offense will once again run, and pass, through McCluster in 2009.

NEWS

Senior Bowl: Dexter McCluster (Mississippi) was one of the stars of the day. He is extremely explosive, and a player that I’ve frequently referred to as Percy Harvin-Light. His lack of size is a concern for scouts, but get him in the open field and it’s over. McCluster is not the most polished receiver, but has been improving in that area. He was getting coached up on the sidelines, and it seemed like he was soaking it all in. There are a few players that get you on the edge of your seat when they have the football— and Dexter McCluster is certainly one of them. – Draft Guys (01.26.10)

01.02.10 - Dexter McCluster gave Mississippi fans a finale to remember, rushing for 182 yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead 2-yard run on a direct snap with 4:03 left as the Rebels beat Oklahoma State (No. 19 BCS, No. 21 AP) 21-7 in the Cotton Bowl on Saturday. McCluster became the first player in SEC history with more than 1,000 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in one season. McCluster finished with 1,170 yards rushing and 520 receiving.

11.20.09 - McCluster's brush with death and serious injury made him re-examine his life and his faith. You can watch his heartfelt testimony on YouTube at youtube.com/watch?v=hWsGL1lbmHk. It explains why McCluster embraces each day with a smile. He plays with joy, and it has been reflected in his last three SEC games, in which he has gained a combined 591 yards rushing (8.6 yards per carry) and 196 yards receiving (13 yards per catch) with six touchdowns (five rushing, one receiving). His four-touchdown, school-record 282 yards rushing performance in last Saturday's 42-17 victory over Tennessee still has Vols coach Lane Kiffin singing McCluster's praises. "A lot of times when you're small and quick, you don't have that top-end speed," Kiffin said. "I assume he (McCluster) is going to be a 4.3 (40-yard dash) guy at the (NFL) combine. What I saw on Saturday was a first-round draft choice. He reminds me a lot of (Titans running back) Chris Johnson. He'll definitely get a shot at running back." This Saturday, stopping McCluster is the problem of LSU coach Les Miles. "He has great speed, great anticipation for cuts," Miles said of McCluster. "We've given a lot of thought to it, and you don't stop him with penetration. It's about getting a lot of jerseys in his way and corralling him. I think our athleticism will help with that." – The Commercial Appeal

11.03.09 - Dexter McCluster has been nearly unstoppable the last two games and rewrote the Rebel record book against Arkansas. He is averaging 154.5 rushing yards and 231.5 all-purpose yards over the last two weeks. With a career-high 22 carries each outing, he recorded his first two 100-yard rushing games and totaled a career-high 186 at Auburn, which is the most by a Rebel since BenJarvus Green-Ellis ran for 226 yards against Missouri in 2007. McClusters' 79-yard TD run Saturday marked the longest rush of his career and the longest by an Ole Miss player since Deuce McAllister galloped 80 yards for a score against Oklahoma in the 1999 Independence Bowl. Against the Razorbacks, McCluster became the first Rebel in the modern era (records dating back to 1965) to top the 100-yard mark in both rushing and receiving. McCluster posted team highs of 123 rushing yards and a career-high 137 receiving yards off a career high-tying seven grabs. He finished with 260 all-purpose yards, which is the most by a Rebel since McCluster's own career-best 268-yard performance in his Ole Miss debut against Memphis in 2006. McCluster has jumped to first on the team in rushing (59.0 ypg) and second in receiving (27 rec, 352 yds) this season. Last year, McCluster joined Florida’s Percy Harvin as the only players to rank top 10 in the SEC in rushing yards, receiving yards, receptions and all-purpose yards.

A couple of people reported in this thread that they heard it on TV. Apparently the Eagles were shocked.

Yeah, this was all over twitter as well, the "experts" suspected the Eagles were getting ready to take McCluster...

Yeah, I would've supported taking Spiller because he filled three holes: running back, returner, and receiver. I'm not sure McCluster is going to be a running back in the NFL, but we need receivers and a returner, so I'll grit my teeth a little and be fine with it.

I'd sure like a nose tackle and a quarterback at some point, though.

That's the thing: we passed on players who play 2 or 3 downs for a situational/limited touches guy.

A NT, T/G, or legit WR could be out there all day long.

Sal Palantonio said it. He said Nate Allen was the safety the Eagles wanted but not their top choice overall at the pick. They supposedly wanted McCluster and were shocked he was taken before them.

I will say that he is a unique talent. There are a bunch of 'good' players, but he appears to be a special one in what he brings to the table. So, apparently, the Chiefs knew they would take him. Decided to grab a guy they viewed as a difference maker.

coming from the guy who took Gholston over Ryan, Clausen over Bradford, and reached for Campbell 30 picks too early...

Sorry if I no longer take your draft expertise as gospel.

Such a fucking hypocrite.

"I like Jimmy Clausen more than anyone."

Now he's the point of your argument against him.

Why can't we draft like the Ravens?

You missed that entire Kiper-McShay debate yesterday, didn't you?

I get it man, I do...

I wanted Clausen...or I wanted Benn...

I read all of the same stuff you guys read...I invest emotionally in this shit just as much as you guys do...

at the end of the day though...I'd rather have a McCluster opposed to that dumbass TE New England just drafted.

Our offense can be dynamic next year if Cassel gets his head out of his ass (which is no guarantee, but who knows)...

Yeah, here is the thing.... he get limited snaps, but he will make them count.
