did we really trade up for a 30 catch injury prone TE with a history of concussions?

So what did we give up in the trade.

Damn, there's Jimmy Graham.

Tony Moeacki is going to wish he had Jimmy Graham's career when it's all said and done.

I thought I heard in the background that it was a 4th and 5th but don't know for sure.

"Moeaki has been a bit of a disappointment since coming to Iowa as the top-ranked high school tight end in the country. He has struggled to stay on the field as he has missed games in virtually every season of his career at Iowa. He is a good athlete but lacks a second gear to stretch the secondary down the middle and lacks a big burst coming out of his cuts to separate from defenders. He shows effort as a blocker but lacks the lower body strength to block with much power. His best shot may be as an H-back or a tight end that is generally split out and lined up off the line of scrimmage."

Awesome. :shake:

"intangibles: Hard worker who does everything asked of him on the field. Quiet player but commands respect through his production, attitude and reliability. Serious durability concerns. Lost for the 2007 season four games in with a broken wrist and dislocated elbow, spring 2008 practice due to surgery on that wrist, preseason practices and the first two games of the 2008 season with a fractured foot, additional time in 2008 with hamstring injury and concussions, and three games with an ankle injury in 2009. The eagles draft well --Reid's a great judge of talent. j/mo... He can pull players together and somehow makes them all perform well -- no matter who the eagles lose or trade.

Reid has taken the Eagles to 5 NFC Champshi;p games and one SB. The eagles have reached the playoffs 7/8 times under Reid. Here's the problem -- despite his success as HC, the biggest knock against Reid is that he falls short in big games as evidenced by 5 NFC Championship appearances and only one SB game.

His clock mgmt skills are horrible -- They have become a legendary. Reid seems incapable of making adjustments in big games. I'm curious to see how McNabb performs under Shanahan --

The experts weren't watching every f'ing game 2 years ago when we set a record for fewest sacks and didn't improve much last year. They weren't watching when Jerome Harrison set rushing records against us on our home field. I'm not going to suggest that I know better than the front office whether the guys we took will be good/bad players. But I do know we haven't been able to rush the passer since Jared left, and we haven't been able to consistently stop the run for longer than that.

The McCluter pick isn't bad on a stand alone basis, but it's a part time player when there were playmakers that could fill needs on defense available.

McCluster is a luxury pick.

We need the basics.

Had we drafted this way in year 4 or 5 of Pioli, after a playoff win, I'd be ok with it. We did add options and players who fill a number of roles.

Problem is none of the day 2 picks are everydown starters. You have this type of draft to help put you over the top and not when you're trying to rebuild...

BossChief
04-23-2010, 10:22 PM
I love Moeaki, I think he will be a MUCH better player than people here are painting him as.

Think Visante Shiancoe

BUT

No way do I give up that much for him in this draft.

So far, I am a big fan of the Berry pick and IMHO the next two were grossly misused (though I like the players, just not at where they were taken) then Im perfectly fine with the Asomoga pick. I love that we got Moeaki, but with his injury history I think we gave up WAY too much for him. But if he is able to stay healthy, we got a bargain.

Kirk Ferentz has said he is the best tight end he has coached (you will have to trust me on that one, I cant find a link. I can assure you it was said though) and he had Dallas Clark.

When we look back at this draft, we will see that our failure in it being a complete homerun was passing on Jimmy Clausen and Terrance Cody at their picks in the second round and falling in love (as I have) with Tony Moeaki.

So far this draft has netted us a game changing safety, a possible pro bowl guard, a very talented tight end, a quick twitch offensive gadget player and a good nickle corner. My issue is what order those are taken and who we passed on to get them more than anything.

I basically am meh with the draft but I can say that I think we will get a return on our investment on all of these picks and that none of these players will be long gone in four or five years from now.

It was obvious that they made picks on offense to help cover up Cassels deficiencies.

And I thought to myself every time I drove through, "How does such a big town pop up out here in the midwest??? How does a city's government work when they are in 2 different states? I wonder what the people are like here.... Holy crap Arrowhead is enormous. Hey, they have a Larry Flynt's Hustler place!" As for pro football, I've never really had a "team". I'm an orange-bleeding VOLS fan, but I never bought into the Titans when they came to town. I've followed the Colts just because of Peyton, and Green Bay because my high school's jerseys were identical to the Packers.... But I've never felt like I had an NFL family that I could identify myself with. For some reason, I really wanted Eric Berry to go to KC... I can't explain it... I just felt like they are a team on the rise, and Berry would be a contributor. Now..... Having seen KC draft him... And having read through 81 pages of this thread... I think I might just be a Chiefs fan. And believe it or not, its not because of Berry. Its because after reading countless pages on this website, I can't help but see the similarites in this fanbase and my buds on Volnation. I even browsed through the Colts' forum to affirm my feelings, and now I'm certain. This Chief fanbase is a loyal, witty, clever, and dedicated bunch; and I think I'm going to have to work on my tomahawk chop over the summer. Sorry for the length of my first post, but let me end it by saying simply.... GO CHIEFS!

Javier Arenas???

I think the Chiefs made those picks because they are athletes. McCluster and Arenas may not be 40 guys, but they have speed on the field. They rely on instincts and are quick twitch guys who were really needed. The Chiefs overall team speed was awful. Besides Charles, I don't think they had anyone who could really take it to the house on any play.

Would I have burned a 2nd rounder on either? No, but what's done is done.

They have value to this football team.

Our secondary should be set for the next 5-10 years easily with Flowers, Carr, Berry (remember him?), Arenas and hopefully someone like Morgan.

The guard was a great pick.

I think we have to get up in the 4th somehow. Cam Thomas, Eric Norwood, Matt Tennant are we players we should target moving forward.

Hopefully we can sign a UFA LB to play along side DJ, or maybe just wait for Kirk Morrison to get cut.

After dealing with thug punk LJ for years, I know where Poli is coming from drafting team leaders with heart and drive. I just hope they have the skills to back it up, because we passed up a lot of good talent. I guess only time will tell. Poli obviously was concentrating on the O side of the ball (With the exception of Berry, but you don't pass that up) this year and will likely go after D guys in next draft. This team has a lot more holes to fill than one draft can take care of. I guess only time will tell if this technique is going to pay off.

This statement is absurd. Hate Matt Cassel because he blows, but he had nothing to do with this draft. People want to bitch about not taking Clausen, and while it sucks, if Cassel sucks next year, we will be in position to take a QB who is far better than Clausen.

Charlie Weis has always had small slot guys in his systems basically at every NFL stop. Taking McCluster doesn't bother me nearly as much as some others.

The Chiefs picked up these guys because they need more athletes on offense. That has to do with the offense. Matt Cassel is just the one with the keys right now. I bet after this year that changes.

Pioli should have picked Bulaga at No. 5 for two reasons. The first reason is that it would have confirmed, in the early run, that this draft would be an abortion. Thanks for getting my hopes up, Pioli. The second reason is that Berry could have gone to a team that his talents would not be wasted. What is the point of having an Ed Reed, when your front seven is fucking atrocious?

This draft has made me hate Cassel even more. I did not think that was possible. His presence kept actual promising QBs (Sanchez and Clausen) from becoming possibilities. His incompetence has forced us to ignore defense in a defensive-laden draft in order to make him look competent.

Fuck that. I hope Cassel's pancreas explodes after eating a bowl of Krusty-O's and is forced to retire. There should be a fucking parade in Kansas City when that clown is no longer the face of my beloved football team.

Yeah, I didn't say I agree with what he is doing, I just think I know why he did it. That being said, I have a feeling we will be going after a QB Next year if Cassel flops again this year. The O should improve a lot this year, but the D is going to be ugly again if Poli stands pat on what we are fielding as of this date with no changes. Perhaps he will make some moves before the start of the season and try to make some trades, or pick some players off the scrap pile.

My god. You seem like a knowledgable poster, but this might be the worst statement I've ever read on here.

It's the "you need to have a line before you get a QB" blanket statement.

The draft isn't over. There are going to be guys available for late round picks via trades. Guys are going to get cut after the draft.

Eric Berry is on this roster and I'm fucking thrilled about that. He hasn't played a snap yet, but already his talents are going to be wasted. There are some days where I think some of this fanbase are so out of touch with reality that they should all just form a cult in Texas.

Berry and Asoaassmuah. Pretty excited about these two picks.

McCluster just has to be nails. No excuses or bullshit. This is a player who needs to come in and provide substantial, immediate production to justify passing on other top talent at this point in the draft.

Much like many of us said after '09, Pioli has to prove he's right. Currently, I couldn't be more skeptical/pessimistic about round 2.

Prove me wrong. Shouldn't be tough, right?

So from what I can tell, the Chiefs are suffering from years of mismanagement? Forgive me if I'm wrong, because I am a noob.... But it seems like there isn't depth at ANY position. Bowe is a really good receiver, but its easy for a secondary to key on him because there aren't any other targets to throw to. Charles has a ton of potential (he showed that last year), but there is literally nobody to give him a breather. In a league that has trended toward 2 RB systems, that ain't good. And I don't think McCluster is the answer. The guy just isn't big enough to be an effective back in the NFL. Then there's the trenches... Yikes. I guess I just don't understand the McCluster and Arenas picks when guys like Kindle and Cody were still on the board. Anybody know why KC isn't trying to pad their depth on the defensive line?

Apparently the fact that Owusu-Ansah has been rehabbing his shoulder (with no complications) is causing him to drop. He's going to be a better CB than most of the CBs taken in the 3rd and 4th so far.

Last time the Chiefs tried to bring in a broke dick, that had disasterous results.

ravens have different needs, and draft for value with much better consistency than we do....

So, you think the Ravens went into this draft needing two pass-catching, no blocking TEs?

sure, and they walked out with kindle and cody in the second....while we took a scat back and nickle corner

they also didn't trade up for 4th round te...

you really arguing they don't draft for value well and that we do?

Kindle could very well be out this entire season, and there are serious questions about Cody. That said, I did like both of them and would have been good with drafting them. But, it isn't like those guys don't have questions too.

And, no, of course I am not saying we draft better than the Ravens. It's just odd that you made that statement in regards to them drafting two TEs in the same draft. The meltdown if we took two TEs, even if it was these two TEs, would be unrivaled.

Patriots don't have Watson and Baker anymore. That drafted 2 stud TE's that can get downfield. They also got a WR in the third. CP is so obsessed with need a lot of you are missing the value of Talent. The Chiefs biggest need was TALENT. They were the slowest and least talented team in the league. There is always a place to play guys who can really play. And who the crap cares if they all come from one school?

because they have different needs

god damn....value is relative to needs

we had major fucking holes and took a slot wr and a nickle back in the 2nd

they took a pass rushing olb and a NT in the 2nd, after acquiring a probowl wr in FA....they can afford to burn a 4th on a te....and they didn't even have to trade up to get him
