gonna do some work for my stepdads company and need to submit legit invoices. gotta go register with the state of TX, pay a few bucks, jump through a few hoops and i'll be a sole proprietor. only prob is i don't have a cool name. haven't needed one yet. as a deadhead i like: melt your face fabrication and steel your face fabrication, but if your not a deadhead its probably just a weird name. usually i'm good at this kind of stuff, but can't come up with anything. the wife likes fahreheit fabrication. thinks it has a nice ring to it. c'mon CP, help me with a good name. or at least a few good jokes at my expense. and since its draft day were taking okung, williams, or bulaga depending on who is available.

Why would you go the sole proprietor route? Why not form an LLC (if your state allows it) or an S-Corp? Protect your assets.

Go with "Marital Fabricating" and your motto can be "Because what we join, no man can put asunder".

Or maybe "Welds and Things".

How about "Eyes Wide Shut" Welding, and your motto can be "The second-most fun thing you can do in a mask".

sole prop route because its cheaper and i just need it so i can be legit for a few invoices, though i haven't fully made up my mind. other than that i just take cash/weed payments. in the near future it will be an LLC so that i am protected. hopefully the very near future after i hopefully make some $ on this upcoming contract.

some pretty good suggestions so far, my favorite being

As someone in the industrial/commercial construction world, here is my take on company names.

Don't try to be cute....it's annoying and just looks unprofessional. There was a company once that sent me a bid called "Why Not Us? Flooring". Why not you? Because you picked a company name that makes you sound like an eighth grader.

If you are certain you will only ever do welding and fab, pick a name that clearly shows that. If there's any chance you will ever branch out, keep it more generic.

Cute names and slogans may be good for a chuckle, but for the most part I think they are stupid and unprofessional.

Oh, and Fahrenheit Fabrication isn't bad, but without knowing more about you can't say if there wouldn't be a better fit.

Well, I always go with what is going to get your business found.

What do people look for? Welding? Fabrication?

TexasWelding.com if its available or something like that. Your location and your main keyword is the best bet, if you are just starting out.

Keywords and location are searched for... your business name will not be. So, have it work for you.

If you plan on only being open the one day of the week that most people consider to be the 2nd day of the normal work week, you can't go wrong by calling your business Tuesday Weld.

I don't have any ideas, but here's a link to Texas taxable entities. If you find something you like, you can check here to see if it's taken or not.
