I think I like this guy, as long as he isn't Saivaii-ish.

3.8 GPA.... big on community work.

Seems like a smart, tough, competitive football player

We needed another guard. I do like this one... I'm just pissed about the 2nd round.

i like this pick, even though i don't know much about this draft...

could be the long term answer to our need at guard (particularly when waters leaves)...

seems like a good kid from solid stock. saw he was rated as 2nd rated guard on several sites. hope he plays nastier than he interviews but i like the pick.

OT? Is being list as a RT for us? I thought he'd be a gaurd. Of course, with Lilja & Waters at Gaurd, we don't really need a starting gaurd ATM. If he can start at RT, that would fill a bigger need.

Albert-Waters-Weigman-Lilja-Asamoah

Sounds okay if he can play RT... But does that seem likely?

Maybe Waters should try to play RT then... Callahan doesn't impress me much. Waters has not been great at gaurd, but he's more solid at that spot than any of our tackles have been. If we're drafting to the future rather than this season everybody stays put... Maybe we draft a Center as well.

I like McCluster, but I like Asamoah much better than Arenas...

Hope this is true, except I don't think I want to see Weigman's old ass starting at C for us, I'd rather see us grab a C in the 5th or something...

I watched Jon start for three years at Illinois and he was flat out nasty and mean. We got a 2nd round talent in the third round, no complaints there. I just wish we would have picked a certain Illinois receiver in the second, but that's another story.

Best KC pick of the night, and it's not even close.

Has the potential to play center, but I expect Waters to be cut/traded, Lilja moved to LG and JA plugged into RG for the next decade.

Waters is done and so far, Pioli's done nothing to address the right tackle spot. He said he feels comfortable with O'Callaghan at right and I believe him.

I think Asamoah is a left guard in the NFL.

Yeah, I'd rather just ditch Waters. Try to trade him for a 4th or a 5th. The guy's play was horrid last year.

Our line could get young in a hurry if we pick up a center in the 5th.

What the hell are they going to do with Colin Brown and Ryan Lilja if he's a right guard?

Do you think that Asamoah is incapable of playing left guard? Quite honestly, I don't think I've ever even seen him play. They don't show Illinois games in SoCal.

If not, then the Brown pick was really a major waste last year because I seriously doubt he beats out Asamoah, although I liked him quite a bit at right guard last year in training camp.

And I'm still not sold on Lilja. It's very odd to me that the Colts cut him and replaced him with Andy Alleman.

He is a very talented O Lineman, so I am sure he could switch sides and still be productive. I don't know the intricacies of it, but we see many tackles switching sides, so I am sure guards can do it as well.

I think he could play either spot at a high level. This might turn out to be Piolis best pick.

If that's the case, I hope the line looks like this:

Albert/Asamoah/Weigman/Brown/O'Callaghan

Richardson, Harris, Center draftee and Lilja as depth.

Two 6'7, 325 pound guys on the right side would be brutally awesome.

CaliforniaChief

The one positive thing I'll say about this...for all the banging on Pioli...he correctly stuck with Branden Albert at left tackle. I expect a very good year from him. If they got a 4th for Waters, even a 5th, I would be thrilled.

Is the big kid from Mizzou, that got drafted last year, then injured, still figure into the mix?

He reminds me a lot of Will Shields. You can't say that he'll have the career of Shields, who was perhaps the best offensive guard ever, but he's smart, mean, and can play the game. He's very similar to Shields physically, has the same type of game and is a very solid pick where they got him in the draft.

However, that doesn't excuse the entire second round debacle.

And IIRC the last time we tried it him and Trent had major QB/C exchange issues.

I doubt after as many years and hitting the probowl at G he's been working on that...

I'm not sure at this point, though, that I wouldn't rather see him shipped off for another pick tomorrow, assuming he still has any value.
