I'll check the boxscore after the game. Not going to sit through Zack being great and watching him lose while throwing a one run complete game. I've seen it happen enough that I've been reduced to praying for Zack.

Thought the ball was foul. Wasn't running particularly hard, so the ball down the LF line and off the wall became a triple.

And I really like the fact that the best hitter on our team is hitting #4. No reason to put him at #3 to make sure that he bats in the first and gets as many ABs as possible...

But even Frank White hit 22 HRs for a couple of seasons, so billllaaaay's fat ass needs to be able to do a little better than that.

I dont think you can announce anyone as the best pitcher in the league, he's one of the best obviously and was THE best by far last year. He came in to today w/ a 2.50 somethin ERA, what more do you want from a guy who plays on the worst team in the league with zero run support?

This is one situation that I slam Moore for. We could hve stood pat last year with Sanchez at SS who has better range than Yuni and made a move for Scuttaro or someone this year until we can bring someone up.

And of course this is the game he has already given up there and still does not stand to get a W. Looking at the pitch count and the way he is pitching doubt Grinke sees the end of the sixth. 7 hits and a walk in 4 innings is not good.

it's a crapshoot...

being the "best" as a starting pitcher has everything to do with consistency if you ask me...

Every year some no name comes out of nowhere and puts together a monster season...to an extent...that was kind of Zack Greinke last year...even though everyone knew he had that potential...and in all honesty, he's clearly one of the best in the game today...

but I can't put Zack Greinke in the same category as Roy Halladay since Halladay has been doing it for years...and Greinke only has 2.5 years of good pitching under his belt or so...

Short Leash Hootie
05-13-2010, 01:38 PM
if the Royals want to get Zack his win...they have 6 outs to get a run...no way Zack is going past the 6th...and I wouldn't put it past Hillman to pull him right now since he's already over 100 pitches.

Because I'd like to see him pitch at a high level for another 5 years or so, at least.

No chance in fuck he should go beyond 110 in May unless he has a no hitter in the works. None. Zero. Doing so is unbelievable negligence that should justify the manager's and the general manager's firing.

Tim Lincecum throws between 110-120 pitches just about every start for the last two years and he doesn't have great mechanics like Zack Greinke...

Injuries happen...some pitchers are injury prone, some pitchers are not injury prone.

No reason we need to keep a leash on Greinke anymore...125 pitches isn't going to do any more damage than 105 pitches...

OmahaChief

Just asking, if not Zack then who?

I still think you have to give the edge to Halladay. He pitched in the toughest division in baseball and had great success while his team was not that great. If Zack would have had to face the Rays, Yankees and Red Sox as oftern as Halladay did I don't think his numbers would have been as good as they were last year against our division.

Oddly enough guys like Tom Seaver, Steve Carlton, Nolan Ryan and the like used to have pitch counts in the 100+ almost every game and they managed to hold up pretty well. Of course they conditioned their arms to handle the load were as today due to salaries players are coddled.

There are always exceptions, but there are countless other examples of players who were abused, burned, and tossed.

Is it possible that Greinke could be an exception because of his natural delivery and smooth mechanics? Absolutely. But I'm not going to take unnecessary chances with our most valuable asset in a worthless season.

If we're talking about a contending team in August/September, it's a different story.

Short Leash Hootie

it's a worthless season every season...

so you keep "coddling" him and keeping him on specific pitch counts so he can stay "fresh" for the next team that he pitches for...

Makes no sense...

He's a veteran now...doesn't need any training wheels...if he's feeling it and retiring batters past 110-115 pitches...no harm in letting him throw another 10-15 pitches...I've seen lines where Lincecum throws nearly 140 pitches...

Sure there are examples, like our own Jose Rosado. The point I was trying to make is if you train the arm to work in that manner it should adjust. Just like if you weight train, you can get your body to do a lot more if you train it to do so but if you cap yourself at a certain weight and reps you will never really move forward.

The old school guys trained for long outings and higher pitch totals.

I have the same issue with closers. Guys like Goose, Quiz, Lee Smith, Bruce Sutter they all went multiple innings year after year and were just fine. now guys only come in when for an inning. I have a feeling if Carlton or Ryan were being paid 10 million a year they would have had these types of pitch counts as well.
