Darrow served the ideals of this nation very honorably, IMO.

Darrow's a cool guy. Didn't he do the John Scopes trial immediately following this one? I know he died shortly after defending Scopes.

Darrow was one of America's greatest men...I see no reason why you would want to impune someone who represented the American ideals as honestly as he did.

(Oh and by the way, just an aside, Bryant was an ignorant bomabastic blowhard... while a great orator.. barely had enough cognative function to walk and chew gum at the same time.. hey buddy, how'd prohibition work out for you? you worthless demagogue...)

No it was Bryant who died in his sleep 5 days after... probably from guilt... (sorry I hate him and everything he represented... he was a venomous, closed minded, populist bastard.)

Just another side note... strange that as an anti-obama person you would hate on darrow... Darrow was everything Obama is NOT... Obama is a pure populist... darrow was a practical idealist.. in the RIGHT way...

I think you need to take a step back and get some perspective.

Leopold and loeb should have taken a ride on ol' sparky, but didn't because of Darrow.

"...Counsel ought to be the very last thing that an accused person should want in a free country, that the bar ought ... to be independent and impartial, at all times and in every circumstance, and that persons whose lives were at stake ought to have the counsel they prefer."

What exactly is a practical idealist?

Besides, of course, an oxymoron.

Isn't Darrow one of the founding members of the ACLU?

LOL

The idealism gives you the means of measurement and evaluation. The practical side is the knowledge that one has to use the tools to judge the situation and provide correction when people, groups, organizations or others deviate from the ideal state.

Not exactly, but close enough... early leader in th ACLU...

btw.. The ACLU's stated mission is "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution (http://chiefsplanet.com/wiki/United_States_Constitution) and laws of the United States

How is this POSSIBLY a bad thing...

So, you are against teaching evolution, school integration, interracial marriage... all things the ACLU has gone to court over... they also defended Ollie North when his 5th Amendment rights were being abused.. I guess they shouldn't have done that?

Yeah because the only difference between North Korea and the USA is the ACLU.

Yeah because the only difference between North Korea and the USA is the ACLU.

:rolleyes:Do you believe that EVERY PERSON, no matter how obvious or sinister their crime, deserves a fair trial?

And "fair trial" in this case includes defense counsel.
