for the first time in a long time, Sprint finally has the best phone on the market.

and KC has 4G, so everything's a go.

Looks like a great piece of hardware, but by most accounts, the battery life is horrendous. If that's the case, it's a deal-breaker for me - I don't want to be tethered to a power source for my phone, or lug around additional batteries...

This phone looks ****ing sick. My buddy's getting one tomorrow so I'll get to play around with it for a bit. iPhones are cool and all; the "new" has just sort of rubbed off the brand so to speak.

I'm gonna switch my contract over next month and grab me one.

No, no it's not. All Smartphones right now have issues w/ battery. Unbiased sources (unlike apple fan websites) such as CNET and engadget said the battery issues are way exaggerated and the battery life is even better than the Iphone 3G. Certainly if you are running 4G surfing the web ALL DAY, you aren't going to make it...but it's not going to be terrible. Plus, there will be 2800mAh batteries in no time up on ebay for cheap.

if the 4G is solid at my house, i might just get rid of my internet service. unlike other companies, sprint is (theoretically) uncapped. then again, i don't do all that much downloading, so i might never hit a cap if there was one.

There is no cap, you are right. People in NYC and LA are pissed that KC gets 4G before them. From Sprint's map it doesn't look spotty either. I live way down off of 151st and Mur Len and it's going to be solid there. I'm going to try their aircard out for 30 days, see how I like it. They have a 30 day guarantee.

I just tried using the Sprint 4G USB aircard (U300) yesterday ( I live at 49th and Mur Len) and got 3-4 bars, it was pretty fast....... but don't think I will give up my landline just yet.

If your contract is within six months of ending, call Sprint's account executive or retention department. Ask the following questions:

1) How much is my Early Termination Fee?
2) When does my contract expire?
3) When are you getting the I-phone?

When they say no, or they don't know if they are getting the I-phone just go. Well I just read that AT&T's 4G Iphone will be coming out in about a month or so and they will have $60 price plans for consumers like me who don't hog data. You'll get something. Probably at least a $10-$20 credit, and they might even pull some strings to get you on the Employee All-Everything plan which is $59.99 rather than $69.99 and you get more minutes.

i'm not even talking about an aircard. i'm talking about simple tethering of my phone to my comp. or maybe the hotspot thing for the extra 30 if tethering is an issue.

On the facebook Sprint site, people in smaller metro areas than KC were bitching that KC got it instead of them. Saying that we were "cow tippers". It was kind of funny how people look at KC. I'm pretty sure Sprint is by far the #1 cellular provider in the area, and you kinda have to have 4G where most of your bigwigs and your corporate campus is. It's good business.

Would recommend the 4G MiFi Hotspot or the 4G Modem... for home use....

The 4G MiFi, you can take with you and I was reading that users in TX love it in their cars....... works better then in their homes....... just saying.

are those sprint-specific products?

cause i'd prefer not to pay an extra 60 a month, cause the sprint hotspot thing is an extra 30 per phone, and we'll have two phones.

How's the battery life so far?

today on my first full charge I'm 6h12m in, and still have about 50%. m Says my 20 minutes playing Wings of Steel ate 48% of my used battery.

I've sent a half dozen emails (each with about 5MB of attachments), made a handful of calls, taken a few pics, and played around also.

sure, although youre dependent on the cell reception which may or may not be good, and the 4g speeds ultimately will likely be less than a solid HSI line.

Why do so many people get so jacked up over cell phones? I don't get it , and so many people get so excited about showing them, you didn't invent the damn thing, you purchased it. My phone is so "unsmart", that if it were any more basic it would have a rotary dial, and I survive just fine. Just saying.

What did we ever do when we were free? With the advent of cell phones the society has become chained to a tree, so to speak. You can't get away from anyone.

Worst part is I see guys at work texting and surfing the internet when they are supposed to be doing work for their employer.

Anyone have the statistics of how many people get fired for texting at work?

That guy is a fucking idiot. Read the following statement.

Yes you can do a few things to get a little extra time out of it, but this device routinely runs out of power while sitting on standby overnight next to my bed.

What smart phone can you leave overnight without being plugged in.....and have it still have a decent amount of battery left?

Seriously.....who the fuck doesn't plug their phone in overnight?

I agree with you that it's BS. But..... I routinely go 2 days between charges with my iPhone. But still, I'd say that's pretty weak criticism. That can vary so much with how you use your phone, what services you leave on, how you charge your battery, etc.

Most people are clueless about how to manage their battery. Leaving it plugged in and charging well after the battery is 100%, not routinely cycling the battery, charging the battery in a hot temperature, etc. That can all make a huge difference in the overall life of the battery.

Anything shorter than a day of battery life usually is not caused by the phone, it's the idiot using it.
