I might have clicked into this thread sooner, Nzoner, if the thread title had indicated that it was about Petty. You said in the "Opinions Wanted" thread that no one around here seems to care about the new Heartbreakers album. I certainly do. I'm stoked about the blues-based concept that is reportedly allowing Mike Campbell to play kick-ass solos in just about every song. I even bought tickets, extremely overpriced tickets, to the Heartbreakers show at the Sprint Center.

Yeah that was my bad. It's good to see someone of your age that appreciates the kind of music you do.I kind of thought in the opinons wanted you'd suggest Steven Wilson as did I.Not saying he's the greatest and I absolutely agree with your take on Prince as well,it's just a shame that more people who consider themselves music lovers have not taken the time to explore PT more.

There's a bunch of artists that I could have mentioned. I thought about being a homer and mentioning Mikeal Akerfeldt from Opeth, who has greatly influenced Steven Wilson since Steven produced three of Opeth's albums in the middle of the decade. But the thread starter wanted the single "most creative and talented" musical artist still active, and I spent about ten minutes deliberating over just who I thought that might be.

But why is he ripping melodies from Staind?

There is really only one note in the guitar lick that is the same, that noticeable high note that hits at roughly the same part in the time signature on each song. Besides, I doubt that Petty has ever even heard a random acoustic rendition never released on a Staind album.

I really wish Petty's voice didn't grate on my soul.

Bob - That does sound pretty darn similar, lol.
