My family and I are coming to KC for the final 7 days of June. What shall we do while were in town? We'll be staying in Overland Park.

Things we plan to do include:

Touring Boulevard Brewing Co
Royals Game (Monday 6/28)
Considering Schlitterbahn
Visiting famous gravesites
Shopping: Village West, CC Plaza, Zona Rosa, Crown Center
Eating: Oklahoma Joes, 810 Zone, Strouds
Great Lenexa BBQ Battle
Truman Library
Kansas City Zoo (maybe)

Gates: 435 and State Line.

Need something to compare/contrast with Ok. Joes.

Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. The Nelson.

I enjoyed the Boulevard tour. Crown Center wasn't quite what I expected. Not sure what I was expecting though. I'd add art museums to the list. They're near the Plaza. 810 Zone (on the Plaza anyway) is pretty good, but overpriced. The Cheesecake Factory on the Plaza is way overpriced, but I always get a slice of two of cheesecake when I go. There's Legends in KC KS.

We've been to both the American Jazz and Negro League museums in the past. We may consider the Nelson again. We would definitely be interested in catching some live jazz, if there's a place we can do that with a 12 and 8 year old in tow.

810 Zone? One of the best food cities in America and you pick the 810 Zone?

Their chicken fingers are outstanding. Plus, "The Zone" has great specials on Bud Light.

Last time we were in Leawood we ate at 810 and everyone in our family raved. It was a very positive experience.

Oh, you have kids with you? That makes some sense then; kids don't like good food.

Great Wolf Lodge in KCK has huge waterpark for the kiddies, and close to good shopping and some BBQ (Arthur Bryant's, Famous Dave's.) Kauffman Stadium is pretty kid friendly, if you don't mind watching suck baseball.

What's the best food item the K?

Chili cheese fries with jalapenos.

Also they have this steak sandwich with bacon, 2 cheeses, onion rings, and some other stuff on it and it is the bomb but it costs like 12 bucks I think.

I dunno, I don't have kids, but my friends that do love this place. Here's the website:

Best food at the "K" would be either Gates BBQ or Stroud's Chicken. Yum on both.

BBQ!

Actually, you have a decent dilemma because good places aren't always kid friendly. I doubt the kids would like Vietnamese or other ethnic foods. Stroud's might be an option.

Man, I hate kids.

Family friendly...
Union Station, there's almost always an exhibit going on. Even if there isn't, it's a decent time killer.
WWI monument, very close to Union Station and worth taking the time to see the nation's only WWI monument. You can go up in the monument.
Royals game-the product isn't great, but it's still a good time out with the family.
Truman Library is a must-see, if time allows.
Worlds of Fun-a bit expensive but it will keep the family entertained.
Schlitterbahn is a fun time, it's also close to the Legends for a decent dining and time outside of the hotel-mostly shopping and dining there.

The Schlitterban in San Antonio is the best water park I've ever been too. Haven't been to the one here yet. I'd say its has to be a must see. You can go to Jummy Buffets margratville while you are out there at legends. Kids might think seeing the Nascar track was cool. They also have a pretty cool little minor league baseball park out there.

So, tell about me this Power and Light district....just nightlife, or is there something for families there? If you want to have a really cool experience down in the power and light they have an old vauldeville theatre that Charlie Chaplin use to perform in they have converted into a state of the art movie theatre.

They have the cinema suites movie theatre. Big screen like IMAX. Big huge leather barcoloungers (think ESPN Zone chairs). You can order drinks, appetizers, entrees, deserts etc and waitress's bring you the food/drinks. The barcoloungers have a tray attached to them that you can put food drinks on or just swivel it off the side.

Oklahoma Joe's. It's closed on Sundays though. And, yes, you need to stay the night at Great Wolf to get in. At least you do at the one outside Dallas where we went. It's like $300 a night, too. I really didn't like it, but it's for the kids. My 4 year old was done with it after a few hours though. It's just really noisy and crowded and....blech.

And I think the KC zoo sucks, although some people here vehemently disagree with that.

While you're in Zona Rosa, stop in at 54th Street Bar & Grill...or Stone Canyon Pizza.

As for sites, try to see something in the Sprint Center...I'm not sure what all's going on during that time, but there should be something cool.
