Original thread. (http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?p=6776631#post6776631)

Double your heats, double your fun.

In Heat 14, Snake Plissken (Escape from New York), Captain John Miller (Saving Ryan's Privates), Judge Dredd (Judge Dredd) and Dutch (Predator) square off. I believe this our first Stallone/Arnold meeting. I swear to god, if Dutch goes out in the first round, I will choke a bitch.

I'm not voting for either of the two featured videos.

If you don't vote for Dutch, you are a buffoon. Dutch single-handedly took out a Predator without firing a shot and even survived hand-to-hand combat with it. He should be a top 10 candidate in this tournament, no question.

Most of the people participating in these polls are fucking stupid. Don't underestimate that.

Dutch wins by a large margin. Seriously, he whipped a Predator's ass. Snake gets 2nd which should be by even a larger margin. I love Saving Private Ryan, but should he be here in this?

I've only seen two of these movies and they were both pretty funny.

Which heat will have that porn actor with the pork knife?

It would be funny if the final was Dutch against The Terminator.

I voted for Dutch and Miller. The original Predator movie was a classic and saving pvt. ryan is probably one of the best movies ever made. Definitely the best fictional War movie anyway.
Btw, if nobody knew, today is the anniversary of the Normandy invasion.

The interesting wild card in this is John Miller's leadership ability. Whereas most of the people involved in this tournament immediately begin fighting solo, I think John Miller starts talking backstage in the dressing room with the weakest of the other three. If the two of them work together, it's possible to have the two weakest guys winning their heat.

Having said that, he drew an absolutely brutal heat.

I bet if I wore an eye patch and introduced myself to my students as "Snake" I could get 5/5 on my student teaching evaluations.

So John Miller and Snake Plissken team up, and they take out Judge Dredd.

Then Plissken shoots Miller in the back and the heat is over.

Interestingly, I immediately gravitated toward a Plissken/Miller alliance, too. Plissken was smart enough to see the value against a couple of guys like Dredd and Dutch.

The challenge, though, now that I think about it, is that alliances only have a 50/50 chance of working in a four-person heat. If the two of them gang up on one guy (Dutch, for example), Dredd is free to either help Dutch, which would surely eliminate the Plissken/Miller team, or he would help eliminate Dutch, which makes a lot of sense since Dutch is the strongest competitor visually, but would then doom Dredd. So if Dredd is smart he would do the opposite of what seems logical and he would help Dutch. That probably dooms him in the long run, though.

Just going by Snake might work. What's the female/male ratio in your classes?

Regardless of an interesting discussion, the tournament doesn't really allow for alliances. Each competitor enters at a separate point of the dimly light maze. There is no dressing room. They are transported from their fictional universes to the gauntlet of the Herolympics at the moment their first heat begins, unaware that around any corner could be...Remo Williams.

I bet John Miller could do it on the fly, because that's his main weapon.

Not that it matters much in maze full of Dredd and Dutch and Plissken.

I'm teaching at the graduate level in the fall and the ratio is likely to be in the neighborhood of 1:1 or better. This is amazing for engineering. A couple of years ago, I had four students named Amanda out of a class of about 20. Paradoxically, this seemingly advantageous situation at work is perfectly offset by a 1:1 M/F ratio at home.

I guess I'll continue to wear my glasses and go by cdcox.

That is surprising. However (and I could be wrong), don't you draw some students more from life sciences, which I imagine would have more Amanda-type people? Still, I wouldn't expect any engineering to draw more than about 25 percent Amanda-types. My program (25 years ago) was about 10 percent, which equated to two women.

I remember distinctly that there were 4 Amandas but can only remember 3 of them specifically and all three of those were engineers. There were other women not named Amanda, so it wasn't just four Amanda-types but actual Amandas.
