Heading to the the Riviera Maya on the 4th of July. I will be sure to wave an American flag in all the natives faces so they can bitch about how we don't respect their country. I kid, I kid. Please don't move this to DC.

Anyway, the wife and I are staying at the Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort. It is all inclusive. I plan on scuba diving, we both plan on doing one of the zip lines at the ruins, and we both plan on parasailing. I am planning on getting the scuba certification down there.

I was just wondering if anyone else had been down there and if they had any suggestions on what we could do? Anything really fun that most people wouldn't know about? Any other tips you might pass along?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

we did Playa Del Carmen for our honeymoon. Look up Alltournative tour company.

Don't waste your time on Chichen Itza, you cannot climb it. Instead go to Coba, it is taller and can be climbed. The view is amazing.

If you are going diving you should look into diving the cenotes. I'm not sure they will take a novice, but if you find a willing guide, they are incredible.

If someone offers you a mine shaft tour, don't do it.

got back from the mayan riveria a few weeks ago. went w/the wife for our 30th.

had a great time. went w/2 other couples. stayed at Sandos Caracol Eco Resort & Spa. all inclusive.

walked 5th avenue in playa del carmen. never would have made it if not for the bars.

pros:
beautiful beaches and forests
free booze all over the resort
uncovered tah-tahs on the beach
fridge in the room stocked w/booze

cons:
can't buy chew....had to chew on cuban cigars the last 2 days
if you're away from the beach and shade, it's a hot mother
uncovered tah-tahs on the beach(baloney and pancake nips:mad:)
fat old men wearing banana hammocks
f@cking birds shitting on the beach loungers

have a great time.

Just had my honeymoon down there in October...awesome spot to vacation!

I STRONGLY recommend the "Extreme Tulum" tour. Included is a tour of the Mayan ruins, snorkeling in a freshwater cave, rapelling in the jungle & zip linning over the trees and through the jungle (the last zip line is over 1/2 mile long!!!)

Additionally, they provide an awesome mexican lunch - the all inclusive spot I was at had 10 restaurants, but NO MEXICAN FOOD?!?!?!? (that spot was closed for repairs). Normally I would be sketch to eat "out" in Mexico, but I did since I felt I should eat mexican food while there & it was great.

Also, Xcarat was a great spot for a day. TONS to do...
