Discussions of conference expansion have spawned a lot of "we" talk with respect to various institutions. I'm curious if many identify themselves with a particular institution specifically because they received their degree(s) there.

Please note if you have a degree from one of the universities listed above.

Note: Valid to vote if you're currently in a degree program and WILL finish. Not in 35 years. Soon.

I didn't attend CU and I don't use "we" when I speak of it. But I do help fund it and I reserve the right to refer to it in any way I choose.

Yeah, no disrespect to the various other universities in the area, but these aren't the major players in expansion talk. Thus, no option on the poll.

Congrats on graduating, though.

Well if we are going this far to bag on people who use "we" when referring to a University that they love then let's take it one step further.

Make a poll showing who has played sports at that school when using "we".

I know several people that could care less about sports but have a degree from a University. They don't spend money on tickets, consessions, travel to bowl games, etc.

But I support "my" University and have my entire adult life. But unfortunately I didn't have the means to afford a college education and had to go to a local technical school to become a trained professional.

Even though I am not a graduate of Kansas State University, I support it financially (with what money I can), I live and die with "my" football and basketball teams, and I am in the trenches when squabbling with friendly banter with NU, KU, and MU fan.

It's part of what makes Kansas City great. Anyone say "we" when talking about "our" Royals and Chiefs? It means you bought in. You love your school/professional sports team. I won't apologize for showing fanatical support, even though I was a son of a truck driver and couldn't afford to attend college.

I hate it when I refer to the royals as we..it's basicly saying

Hi we..meaning I am apart of this dumbassery....which I am...it just doesn't get you laid as much

No one is "bagging" on anyone. Simply curious about how individuals identify university fandom.

For example, proximity and/or hometown would absolutely make sense.

I don't have a problem with people who refer to a school or sports team as "we" even if they have never officially been offiliated with it. If they are a hardcore fan and attend games then it's totally fine IMO. I'm sure I'm not the only one here that refer to the Chiefs as "we"

They're related, IMO.

Degree definitely = "we" because you're connected for life. But this doesn't have to be the only way. Not even close.

I'm talking about the poll. You specifically asked for those who were fans because they have a degree from there, not just who you're a fan of.

Correct. I didn't do a Rainman 20 question poll.

I took it to mean "Are you a graduate of the college you are a fan of?"

And we're only talking about B12 teams (and apparently not all of them), so all of you UMR Miners should just STFU and exit the thread!

I believe that only applies to residents of MO. I live in Florida. They'll have to extradite me to make me do it.
