They're alright. I like the idea of Winstead's better than the actual food when I order there. It's not much different than Steak and Shake, imo.

Greasebomb. If you get it to go, the bag becomes almost transparent with grease by the time you get to where you're going...

Their cherry limeade is ridiculous.. big scoop of lime sorbet in it and everything.

Yea, that's pretty much exactly what I was thinking. I think when I still lived in KC I thought they were great, but now that I've had a few more burgers in a few more places, it's good, but not outstanding.

Now that train place at Crown Center...that's a tasty burger.

I always thought their burgers were pretty good, not great but pretty good. I also like the onion rings and the chili isn't to bad either.

Winstead's is a hamburger chain based in Kansas City, Missouri. The chain opened in 1940 and currently has 10 locations in Kansas and Missouri.[1][2] Apart from their burgers, Winstead's is known for the art deco style of their original restaurant, and "skyscraper" sodas and milkshakes built to serve 5 or 6.[2][3] The chain is currently owned by Haddad Restaurant Group.[4]

Food Network Magazine rated Winstead's the Best Hamburger in the State of Kansas. [5] Food critic Calvin Trillin considers Winstead's to have the world's best cheeseburgers.[6]

Sometimes good. Not that it's ever bad, but it's not quite good enough to crave or eat there often

I had it recently after a long break. I thought it was a damn tasty burger. The patties are super thin, so there is a lot more crispy caramelization. A far cry from, say, the Flea Market, but nice for a change from typical. And the onion rings are great.

My only complaint is that the “50/50” (fries and rings) is essentially a small order of fries with 2 onion rings. 2 Fn rings? C’mon.

Winsteads and Steak and Shake are very similar, but I'll always go for a Winstead's given the choice. For whatever reason I like the thin patty. Of course I always get a double, but their buns are good too. I dont like burgers that are 8 inches thick and your jaw cramps from chewing a wad of bread and meat.

I have only eaten there probably three times in the last 10 years (and there is one about 1/8th mile from my apartment).

Winsteads and Steak and Shake are very similar,

I cant' stand S&S simply because of their fries. They've managed to make fries so small they are practically inedible.

Recipe for awesomeness:

Double Winstead w/ grilled onions & cheese
50/50 (half fries/half onion rings)
Put 2 of the 3 onion rings on the burger
Wash down with butterscotch milkshake

As mentioned above, it is no flea market, though.

Mediocre. It's not awful but I don't ever find myself dying to go eat at Winsteads. 2.5 stars, I guess. If it went out of business tomorrow, I'd never notice.
