My PC crashed today. I rebooted and, trying to get back into my everyday browser (Firefox), I keep getting a message that it's unable to contact the "Proxy Server." One of the options is "check Proxy" Server settings, which, only being a computer semi-literate, I don't know how to. I tried to get into my Internet Explorer, and it also crapped out saying, "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage!" Funny enough, my Opera works which has enabled me to post this. Opera, however is far from my favorite browser. Plus I always like to have accesss to at least two browsers anyway.

I have uninistalled and re-installed Firefox twice now ending up with the same problem. I tried to install Google Chrome and Safari and am getting error messages from them too. I AM FRUSTRATED!!!! :cuss: How do I get my Firefox back?

PLEASE HELP! :(

I have some nice reps waiting for you.

You might want to start with this:

http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_3.html

Then do a fresh download and install of FF.

You've likely got a trojan that's turned on a Proxy server in your internet browsers. You need to turn off the Proxy server settings. After you fix the proxy settings, you should run a good virus/malware sweep. I'd suggest Malwarebytes.

Here's how to fix the proxy issue:

In Firefox...

Click Tools\Options
Click Advanced Tab
Click Network Tab
Under Configure How Firefox Connects to the Internet, Click Settings
In the Settings window, Click No Proxy

In IE....

Click Tools\Internet Options
In Internet Options menu, click Connections
Click LAN settings
Uncheck Proxy server

Now run Malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php).

Next time ask in the Media Center... it will get answered just as quickly.

Will it? I put it in the Lounge in my frustration thinking it will get viewed by more posters. Next time I'll know.

Everybody's computer problem is desperate..

Those with knowledge to fix it are going to check the MC forum often. Don't underestimate the traffic in the MC. It won't drop off the page within hours there either, increasing the likelihood of being seen. It keeps clutter of the main page. And it settles the minds of those who are slightly obsessive compulsive about posts being in the right fucking forum...

Thanks.

Thanks.Yeah, basically geeky stuff is in the MC, where those with geekish tendencies hang out. And generally, you're gonna need a geek to help you out with computer issues. In the lounge, it'll just get buried by poop threads, Badgirl's latest crisis, or the most recent dumb thing Dwayne Bowe's said.

Unfortunately, I'm not one of those helpful geeks. I'm just here for the movie, music, and video game news. (And links... love the links)

Thanks for the heads up. In the words coined by the recently departed philosopher Manute Bol, "MY BAD!"

(Sorry Manute, RIP!)
