Hard to say.

A Portland massage therapist accused former Vice President Al Gore of "unwanted sexual contact" at a hotel during an October 2006 visit, but no charges were filed due to lack of evidence, law officials said Wednesday.

An attorney representing the woman contacted police in late 2006, said Multnomah County District Attorney Michael Schrunk. Mr. Schrunk said the woman — who has not been identified — refused to be interviewed by detectives and did not want the investigation to proceed.

"This case is exceptionally cleared as (the woman) refuses to cooperate with the investigation or even report a crime," the report states.

Story broken initially by National Enquirer. Looks like she and her attorney wanted to handle it civilly (get paid) more than press chargers.

So... this was an accusation made in 2006, with absolutely no follow through made by the alleged victim, who claimed they'd take action through civil trial, but never even filed a civil lawsuit?

Okay.

Okay.

There is a police report. It's not like a lawsuit has never been filed years after the fact. Ask Slick Willy about it. At least there's no semen-stained clothing to be used as the smoking gun...oh wait, there's semen-stained clothing.

Alrighty.

Point taken. It's a total non-story when the former VPOTUS, while in the midst of a divorce, is accused of sexual misconduct.

Maybe I should stick to hard news; stuff like "Hey guys!!! Look at the Young Republicans singing and dancing poorly!!!"

Okay.

80% of civil claims (an estimate) threaten civil litigation but do not actually wind up filing a case before it is settled. this is particularly true when the filing of the suit itself would have significant publicity damage to the other party that would complicate settlement.

From what I've read, it sounds like she had the opportunity to get the hell out of there if it really was that bad. I've got a feeling that, if this is true at all, she was probably enjoying the attention at first and not being blunt enough in rebuffing his advances. He took that as a signal that she was being coy, and things got more aggressive after that.

AL GORE SEX SCANDAL ACCUSER reveals shocking NEW EVIDENCE -- ONLY to the NATIONAL ENQUIRER in a bombshell world exclusive interview!

"AL GORE is a pervert and sexual predator," declares MOLLY HAGERTY, 54, the massage therapist who told Portland, Ore. police that the ex-VICE President sexually assaulted her.

"He's not what people think he is - he's a sick man!"

When the ENQUIRER first broke the world-exclusive story last week her name was withheld as the victim of a possible sex crime.

NOW, Hagerty has bravely gone public - AND on the record- only to The ENQUIRER - to demand police launch a full investigation.

"I want justice served," Hagerty said as she reveals the key witness who could blow the case wide open, the secret hotel video surveillance and the DNA evidence!

Portland Police Reopen Al Gore Sex Abuse Allegations

Masseuse Claimed Former Vice President Subjected Her to 'Unwanted Sexual Touching' in 2006

Portland, Oregon , police have decided to reopen the investigation into a 54-year-old masseuse's allegations that former Vice President Al Gore sexually assaulted her in his hotel room in 2006.

Massage therapist Molly Haggerty claims Gore "pinned" her and assaulted her."The Portland Police Bureau has made the decision to re-open the case regarding the allegations brought forward against Mr. Al Gore," a statement posted on the Portland Police Bureau's website this evening said.

"Consistent with our policy regarding open investigations, the Police Bureau will not be commenting on any additional specifics regarding this case at this time," it said.

A family spokeswoman said today that the Gores welcomed the new investigation.

"Further investigation into this matter will only benefit Mr. Gore," Kalee Kreider said. "The Gores cannot comment on every defamatory, misleading, and inaccurate story generated by tabloids. Mr. Gore unequivocally and emphatically denied this accusation when he first learned of its existence three years ago. He stands by that denial."

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Detectives interviewed former U.S. Vice President Al Gore this past week in San Francisco, a law enforcement source has confirmed to KATU News.

Portland police detectives interviewed Gore on Thursday, questioning him further about allegations that he sexually abused a licensed a massage therapist.

Investigators had filed a special report in January 2007, recording the massage therapist's claims that Gore grabbed and groped her when she gave him a massage at a Portland hotel in October 2006. The woman went public in a June 23 National Enquirer story and held up "soiled" pants for a June 30 Enquirer cover.

On July 1, the Portland Police Bureau reopened its sexual assault investigation into the former vice president. Officials said the extra review was needed as detectives looking into the matter this past year failed to notify high-ranking officials of the decision to drop the case.

The Enquirer has published the stories of two other massage therapists. Those therapists, who worked at hotels in Tokyo and Los Angeles, have also claimed Gore made unwanted sexual advances toward them.

Portland Police Clear Al Gore

Multnomah County District Attorney Michael D. Schrunk issued a statement summarizing the deficiencies in the case:
1. Ms. Hagerty, who has red hair, states she called Mr. Gore immediately following the alleged incident and told him to "dream of redheaded women" seemingly in contradiction to her assertions that she was terrified of Mr. Gore. Two days after the alleged incident Ms. Hagerty also sent an email to the Hotel Lucia stating that she appreciated the business referrals she received from the hotel. She did not mention any problem with Mr. Gore;

2. Witnesses at the hotel where the alleged incident occurred state they do not remember seeing or hearing anything unusual---directly contradicting Ms. Hagerty's published claim in the July 12, 2010 of the National Enquirer that she was "shaking and in shock" and "rushed down the hall and to the lobby where the front desk clerk noticed she was upset was asked if she was OK";

3. Forensic testing of pants retained by Ms. Hagerty as possible evidence are negative for the presence of seminal fluid;

4. Ms. Hagerty has not provided as repeatedly requested medical records she claims are related to the case;

5. Ms. Hagerty has also failed to provide other records related to the case;

<script type="text/javascript"> document.write(''); document.write('<iframe frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" width="300" height="250" style="width:300px;height:250px;overflow:hidden" name="ad_mid_article" src="http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi/huffpost.politics/longpost;politics=1;entry_id=665872;@ypolitics=1;@yus-news=1;al-gore=1;al-gore-charges-dropped=1;al-gore-investigation=1;al-gore-portland-da=1;al-gore-portland-police=1;al-gore-probe=1;al-gore-sexual-allegations=1;al-gore-sexual-charges=1;al-gore-sexual-contact=1;gore-charges-dropped=1;gore-portland-da=1;gore-portland-police=1;gore-sexual-allegations=1;gore-sexual-charges=1;gore-sexual-contact=1;global=1;' + HPAds.ads_client_side_qvs() + ';load_mode=inline;page_type=bpage;pos=mid_article;sz=300x250;tile=3;ord=1681986037?"></iframe>'); var debugadcode = ''; debugadcode = debugadcode.replace(/\' \+ HPAds.ads_client_side_qvs\(\) \+ \';/gi,HPAds.ads_client_side_qvs()); document.write(debugadcode); &nbs</script>6. Ms. Hagerty failed a polygraph examination;

7. It appears Ms. Hagerty was paid by the National Enquirer for her story; and

8. Mr. Gore voluntarily met with detectives and denied all of the allegations.
