Nixon signs adult entertainment bill into law
By JASON NOBLE
The Star’s Jefferson City correspondent

JEFFERSON CITY | Strict new regulations on adult-oriented businesses are set to become law after receiving Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon’s signature on Friday.

The wide-ranging bill restricts hours of operation and potential locations for businesses such as strip clubs and adult bookstores, bans total nudity and alcohol from such establishments, and limits interactions between employees and customers.

The measures will go into effect Aug. 28, although a legal challenge has been all but promised by the adult entertainment industry.

Dick Bryant, a Kansas City attorney who represents bars, restaurants and adult clubs, said when lawmakers passed the bill May that he expected to be in court “in the next 30 days.”

Bryant did not return calls seeking comment on Friday.

Nixon’s signature caps years of efforts by Lee’s Summit Republican Sen. Matt Bartle to pass the bill.

Similar legislation passed the Senate but died in the House in 2005, sparking a federal investigation into whether donations from the adult-entertainment industry influenced lawmakers’ handling of the bill

I'm a staunch conservative, but I break with many Republicans on this issue. I'm good with the billboard restrictions. The rest is a load of crap.

Legalize the strip clubs.
Legalize prostitution.
Legalize pot.
Legalize gambling.

I lived in Tulsa for 5 years, and a lot of the women that went to Rhema or Oral Roberts definately had some issues.

you have no idea.

you know what springfield is known for? there are four corners on every commercially (and noncommercial) zoned block. of those four corners, there are pretty damned good odds that;

1) one corner: church
2) one corner: brown derby
3) one corner: chinese chicken place
4) last corner: porn store or titty bar

only a slight exaggeration. off the top of my head, there are five titty bars and about three porn 'bookstores.' a shit-ton of churches, brown derb(ies) everywhere (liquor store), and chinese chicken places where the preceding three places are.

they do damned good business I'd assume. springfield, mo is the international headquarters of the assemblies of god (pentecostal) and there are churches EVERYWHERE.

Sex is God given but only in marraige. So get married if you think you'll want sex. But don't marry just anybody. Pray for the right person. But have a long courtship. Love the Christ in the person. Don't have sex. But don't see the other person as sexual. Don't masturbate. Don't look at porn. Don't watch anything that promotes sex. But sex is good. If you are married. Obsess about Homosexuals because they are ruining marriage. Abortion is wrong. Don't get pregnant. Don't have sex. Don't masturbate. Get married. Go to church. Tell single people not to have sex. Then talk about how much sex you have. Rag on Homosexuals. Watch the Jonas Brothers with your kids. Tell them not to have sex. But if they do dony use birth control. And don't get pregnant. And don't have an abortion. Just marry the boy. And don't masturbate.

Sure - whats next - the study of animal husbandry? Oh wait a minute, that's already legal. I'm a strong conservative and believe that most of these laws are stupid social engineering failures.

I'm so dam mad that I have mind to go to a strip club, pick me out a hooker and gamble that my 15 year old rubber is still good. It will be a midget hooker so I prop her up on a plant POT when I do her. Didn't want to leave POT out.

Severe mental retardation on the other side is going to reverse that in the near future.

It's really too bad that there is a level headed fiscally conservative/socially liberal party available.

It seems as if most of us will have to continually vote to keep majorities away from either party in an effort to prevent the most damage.

The primary system seem to be in the way of sanity. I don't have any ideas on how to fix that but it definitely seems like an obstacle.

Then again the extremes on the right are going to be needed in order to get us out of the financial mess where in.
