Biden Calls Custard Shop Manager a 'Smartass' After Taxes Comment

Published June 27, 2010
| FOXNews.com

Vice President Biden called the manager of a custard shop outside of Milwaukee, Wis., a "smartass" after the man asked him to lower taxes.

Biden made the comment Friday after the Koppís Frozen Custard shop manager told him that his dessert would be on the house if he lowered taxes.

"What do we owe you?" Biden is heard saying in footage captured by WISN-TV.

"Donít worry, itís on us," the manager replied. "Lower our taxes and weíll call it [the custard] even."

"Why donít you say something nice instead of being a smartass all the time?" Biden said a few minutes later.

Biden had walked in to Koppís mistakenly asking for ice cream instead of custard.

The manager said later in an interview with WISN that he thought Biden didnít seem happy initially about the taxes comment, but that the vice president later whispered that he was just kidding.

Biden was in Wisconsin to hit the campaign trail with Democratic Senator Russ Feingold. Just days earlier, the vice president told a crowd of Feingoldís supporters gathered at a fund-raising event that "thereís no possibility to restore the 8 million jobs lost in the Great Recession."
He then added that he and the current administration "inherited a god-awful mess."

After he wraps up his time with Feingold, Biden will visit the Gulf Coast on Tuesday to survey the damage caused by the BP oil spill.

John Hinderaker of Powerline (http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2010/06/026620.php):

"A simple way to think about the Democratic Party is, you're the human being, they're the tapeworm. Yet they claim a weird sort of parasite's moral superiority over you: if you point out that they have their hand in your pocket, you're a "smartass." The Democratic Party needs to be torn, root and branch, from our public life."

For the most part this is true, but the custard guy said that Biden looked genuinely irritated when the custard guy suggested lowering taxes. Fortunately, President Thin Skin wasn't there or there might have been fireworks instead of laughs.

It was a rude, smart ass thing to say. Had it been a few years ago and it was GWB or Cheney going into that store and the guy said "its on the house. Stop the War in Iraq" it would have been an equally rude, pain in the ass, attention seeking thing to say.

Telling the VP that he'll get his custard for free if he lowers taxes is a "rude, smart ass thing" to say?

It's a matter of opinion what it was. It sounded somewhat tongue n' cheek to me to bribe him with a free custard. I thought it was hilarious.

You've got to be joking?

Bush: " What do I owe you for the frozen custard"?

Store owner: " stop the war in Iraq and we'll be even"

Bush: " We're doing everything we can to ensure that we bring our young men and women home victorious and we appreciate your support, god bless you"

You can't compare the Bush to this jackoff or anyone else in Obama dictatorship.

The proof that you're lost is in your post. People like you will be the first in line to hand over you and your families liberties, good luck with that.

ROFL This thread is hilarious. Biden jokes around with someone and the Righty posters' claws come out. Of course the source is the "fair and balanced" Fox News that did not bother to include the lighthearted spirit of the exchange and reported it like it was an angry insult by JB. All they had to do was to post the video below:

According to the manager (on your own youtube video), Biden's first reaction was one that made it clear that he didn't like being asked the question. Only later did he come back and try to laugh it off.

Lest you forget, Duhbya provided worse almost every week for 8 years. There was total evidence of gullibility and being a tool for the real powers behind his throne. We only outlined a few of them and without any of the desperation you Righties show to manufacture Dem's own Duhbya.

Biden was actually my first choice in the primaries before he dropped out. Why? I was totally amazed and impressed by his total knowledge of the Middle East and especially Afghanistan/Pakistan.

Of course Cheney saying "Go f*** yourself" to an elected official was met with a lot of expressions of endearment on this very forum.
