View Full Version : Life 6 Man Cave Essentials

Well, these guys pretty much hit it on the nose. I'd take it all! Except make my mini-fridge a Chiefs fridge!

http://astrology.yahoo.com/event/haven/6-man-cave-essentials-1814196/

Man caves—the place where guys can kick back, relax, and be themselves—are so popular that there’s now a TV show, Man Caves on the DIY Network (http://www.diynetwork.com/man-caves/show/index.html), dedicated to them. And whether you’re looking to carve out your own new cave or renovate an already existing retreat, there are key items every guy’s special spot should have. Here are six of them.

The Perch

http://a323.yahoofs.com/phugc/pGC0d8KGLyaT/photos/afc589ddfd41b80330cc1df476709e98/mr_eaa9111a3d637d.jpg?ug_____DT7afvuqa

Whether it’s an old beat up La-Z-Boy from the frat house or a sleek new leather-upholstered home theater recliner, a comfortable chair from which to watch the ball game is a must. Want the bells and whistles on your own bad boy? Purchase one like the gallery massage chair shown here ($500), which includes a convenient cup holder, built-in speakers, USB port, and slot into which you can slide your Sports Illustrated and Golf Digest issues.

Check out hip home furnishings.

The Oracle

http://a323.yahoofs.com/phugc/CQT4Q3_jxleU/photos/14f374dcc81bed7ed5f2ba19c6fa16a5/mr_eaa968e27f96ff.jpg?ug_____D1feWEEyt

We don’t need to tell you, but we’ll say it anyway: Bigger is definitely better when it comes to flat-screens. If you don’t have one already, splurge on a decent-size screen that has HD, like the 32-inch Sony Bravia shown here ($494).

See the coolest cutting-edge gadgets.

A Booming System

http://a323.yahoofs.com/phugc/piYCWOA9lSBh/photos/a7b3fc79dd441a4fe6651a6f5dca9c67/mr_fd93bd30972443.jpg?ug_____DBAi3qIKj

Everyone knows the key to drowning out the outside world is a choice set of speakers that can bring the noise on command. But what to buy? A quality set with a subwoofer (like the one from Klipsch shown here, $2,700) will immerse you in the action during on-screen explosions, the roar of the football crowd, and down time with your favorite tunes. Note that you can get a decent-quality sound system package for as low as $200 on Amazon.com.

The Cool Factor

http://a323.yahoofs.com/phugc/qIkka4wUhEma/photos/5f91e6b9fedafbda84aa962758f7ade4/ori_828fac34cc6f50.jpg?ug_____Diu.qxMPW

When stepping out of your room means potentially jumping into the family fray, why take the risk? Keep your sanity and your chill groove intact by arming your pad with a mini refrigerator. These days they come any way you want ‘em, from sleek silver styles to this sports-fan fave ($479) from One Stop Fan Shop.

Browse must-have barware.

The Brew Master

http://a323.yahoofs.com/phugc/sVWAbxO0cEhj/photos/95b4af1a78e994fe0809ef33c8b870fc/mr_dc1154ce5dff2b.jpg?ug_____DQcX6eQTH

It’s not for everyone, but the kegerator (like the one shown here from Kegerators.com, $300) is a must for anyone who regularly craves ice-cold draft beer. Temperature-controlled and equipped with a tap, it will keep beer fresh and flowing for hours on end. What’s not to love?

Gaming Goods

http://a323.yahoofs.com/phugc/tTT.WIVuf0Yf/photos/5679c25b10a84f3b317a21395e572714/ori_3bb5cae8ea1c4d.jpg?ug_____D1ukbI8q_

Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are man cave-worthy (as these increasingly popular gaming systems give guys a form of escape from the everyday), but the PlayStation (shown here, $299) is the only console that has Blu-ray capability. If your space is already fitted with a high-definition TV, you might as well install the disc player that outputs the highest-quality picture and sound.

When it comes time for the home purchase, I have a few goals:

I want a room that will be transformed into a mini-theater. Split level seating, a projector and a larger screen. I will watch movies and Chiefs games here.

I want a screened in porch with a hot tub.

I want a garden with Tomatoes, Garlic, Basil, Oregano, Raspberries, Blueberries, Jal-ap-in-ose, and bell peppers.

Minus the booming sound system, I'm good. I run my sound through a Bose wave radio, which is good enough for me since I'm in a condo. And no tap, but I more than make up for it with the 18YO single malt. Plus, I've got a big ass broadsword hanging on the wall!

They reccommend a $3000 sound system, and a measley 32inch TV?

My priorities are exactly the opposite. I'd get the cheapest sound, it's just not that important to me, and the much bigger TV.

You have a cat condo in your man cave.

Fail.

A true man cave allows beds for his Labradors and nothing else. Exceptions can be made for other dogs meeting or exceeding 60 lbs, but that's it.

Cat Condos are completely unacceptable.

It's always in the changer. I only bust it out if its a bonafide conquest though.

Back in the day, before I left to go out, I'd put in an ass porn DVD and leave it on the looping Menu screen with music/moaning blasting loud as hell. That way if I did bring some ass home, she knew exactly what was up the second we walked through my door.

Also, I have the 32" Sony Bravia pictured, and I love it. I realize that it's smaller than most of the TV's people have here, but it is my first flat screen and my last tv was a 27" sanyo PoS old school TV that I bought while stationed in Japan. The Bravia is a HUGE upgrade.

I also have the PS3, a kegerator, and mini fridge. The main thing I need is a nice chair. I have a nice computer chair, but I need a recliner. I have surround sound, but it's only a 400 dollar or so Sony 5.1 model. It's not bad, but it was one of those "surround sound in a box" type of things that most people that know audio scoff at. It does have a 5 disc dvd/cd changer though. I can't wait until I can afford a place without roommates so the living room can truly be MINE.

You know that anyone with a "man cave" has the rest of their house decorated in doilies, antiques and other shit that makes it look like six blue haired grandmas exploded. That their wives let them have a 3% section of the house only after they castrated and emasculated them to the point that they happily accepted the corner section of the unfinished basement with the only access being a sliding storm window for the "buddies" to crawl through should be celebrated, right?

As for the stereo, I'm sure it sounds kick ass...for the 23 minutes that the wife is at the grocery store - and when she get's back, she informs you that your smelly boy buds have to leave because dinner is being prepared and will be ready in two and a half hours.

And you happily obliged her "request" because you are holding out hope beyond hope that this might be the month, the one night of the one month of the year, that she might actually blow you.

Not.

Sucker.

But enjoy that "man cave."

I see people giving Frazod shit about his Man Cave. I'll admit, there are some things in there that I wouldn't have.

But you know what? Fuck it. At least he has a Man Cave. It is my dream to someday have a Man Cave of my own.

I'd have to have my Man Cave in the garage though, because my car would have to be with me.

I'd lay down some astro turf and lay down some field numbers and yard markers. Have to have the large flat screen, fridge and surround sound. A nice big comfy leather couch and my car parked right behind me. Also need the PS3 and a bong with some excellent bud.

I'd be set.

Don't blow out your knee making a cut for the bleu cheese, not to mention turf toe when picking up the remote. Might want to rethink this one.

Although not in my gameroom this is my favorite fridge

It was Bob Dole's favorite the weekend that photo was taken, too.

man I miss my 'cave'. it wasn't 'all that' compared to most, but I had my couch, beer fridge, bathroom, walk out basement to patio w/grill....
also had my marshall 1/2 stack down there until I sold it and go the Line 6...

was a great place to watch games, drink beer, and tell lies; those who smoked could go out and smoke, while still watching the game through the door window.

was always great in the summer as it was sort of a 1/2 basement, so it was always nice and cool.

plus it was always fun to walk out of the cave on new years eve and unload about 50 rounds into the ground on New Years Eve..
