Firefox 4 Beta
Beta version 1: released July 6th, 2010

These are the release notes for the first version of the Firefox 4 Beta, based on the Gecko 2.0 Web platform. Please read below for more detailed information about what's new in this version of the beta release, as well as the known issues.

We rely on your feedback to help shape our products, so we've bundled a Feedback Add-On (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/beta/#privacy) with the Firefox 4 Beta that provides an easy to use Feedback button (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/beta/feedback/).

If you want to test Add-Ons with Firefox 4 Beta, you will need to install the Add-On Compatibility Reporter (https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/15003?src=external-fxbetarelnote) first.

Cool... installed on Windows & Ubuntu. Looks pretty slick (or Chromey?)... I thought the tabs were supposed to be all the way on top, so you could hit the top of the screen and still click tabs. Hopefully that's changed to match Chrome.

Looks like Chrome. Is it less of a drain on the system though. I made the switch to Chrome because FF3 was drawing too much of my resources even when doing nothing.

the new FF3.6.6 version is better about that ... especially dealing with flash.

not great, but better

It always ticked me off that FF needed 50% system resources even when it wasn't doing anything. Chrome rocks.

Anyone having speed problems, like actual download speed, with FF4?

My torrents are fast but gmail and facebook crawl.

No problems here. I did have speed issues with 3.x though, so completely blew away my old FF3 install (including profile/preferences data) and installed. Fixed all my problems.

Glad to see ABP and Better Privacy already available.

Beta 5 is like sex.

Hardware Acceleration + Firefox Sync.

I reckon that I'll try it out for a bit. I've become a Chrome junkie, though. FF just got bloated and slow for me, so I scaled back to Chrome.

Hardware acceleration makes it blazing fast. I'm really impressed.

Yeah I have been using Chrome for a while now for the simple reason is firefox is so damn slow for the 3.xxx
