He's a typical Royals acquisition player. Major flaws in their game, but we figure out how to accentuate those flaws to our own detriment. It's akin to self-mutilation..........

Anyone hear what Fever was talking about earlier in the broadcast? He was responding to claims of Betancourt being "the worst SS ever" or something to that effect. A Google search turned up nothing particularly recent.

Wondered why this would be a topic of discussion...

Other than the -17 that Yuni is throwing up this season.

Untrue. I'd go back and research to be sure, but for the 1st 30 years (with the exception of 1983) of the Royals existence this franchise routinely destroyed the Sox. Starting about 2000 did the Sox begin building a decent franchise.

I'll do a little research (for the hell of it) But I know that from about 72 through 96 the Royals owned a huge edge in all time games against the White Sox. That franchise had only 5 or so winning years in 1970 through 2000. 83, 93 2000 were division winners.

But these last 10 years have been a bitter pill to swallow with regard to the Sox. They have just beaten our brains in.

Yeah. And since we lost out on the Cliff Lee sweepstakes, it's what we're going with until Hoch comes back. :D

Bannister can be a #5. Problem is we have too many of those. His first problem is he needs to figure out the White Sox, they flat murder him. He more starts against them than anyone, and his career ERA against them is almost 8. His career ERA in their park is over 9. Just horrible. Especially since they're in our division, that can't happen. You take his non-White Sox numbers this year and he's 6-4 with a 4.82 ERA. And that's with that little blowup he had. That's not great but for a #5 in the AL it's not unforgivable either.

Career wise you look at his non-White Sox numbers and his career ERA drops from 4.91 to 4.46. That's pretty absurd. Of course you'd like to have 5 flamethrowers killing it out there but until we get to that point, I don't know. We'll all be complaining when we dump him off the NL West and he turns into Jeff Suppan.

Bannister's biggest strength is his biggest weakness: he thinks too much.

If we all know his career numbers against the Sox, he knows them, too, so it's likely that he's beaten before he ever takes the hill. It might be unorthodox, but I'd think strongly about skipping his start against this particular club.

I also don't like the fact that he proclaims himself an "ideal #4." It's one thing to know your role, but it's another to be accepting of mediocrity.

Sure-Oz

Yes. The mindset is incredibly weak.

"I'm going to give up 7-9 hits and 4-5 runs per game. But that's ok because my team is 'in it'."

Fuck that, Brian. Your goal is not to be "decent"; it's to prevent the other team from scoring. And, yes, I think the painfully obvious sometimes escape those who are so wrapped up in the more complicated nuances.
