Got an e-mail today from a college with which I am associated, news about a good man who IMHO went out the only way he would have wanted to. May we all be so lucky...

The Mount Mercy community mourns the loss of Dr. Frank Jaszcz, beloved professor, who died last Thursday while fishing in Yellowstone National Park with his wife Marge.
Dr. Jaszcz retired from Mount Mercy after the 2009-2010 academic school year after teaching in the Biology department for 32 years. He touched the lives of hundreds of students during his time here, and was known for his love of fishing.

A wake service for Dr. Jaszcz has been scheduled for Friday, July 23, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stewart Baxter Funeral Home, 1844 First Avenue NE in Cedar Rapids. The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, in the Chapel of Mercy on the Mount Mercy campus. A luncheon for family and friends will immediately follow the Mass in the Mount Mercy Cafeteria.

His tombstone should simply say "A life well lived and a life well ended"

Shit. Now you've done it your going to live forever. And the gay Male couple next door are going to start breeding like rabbits with the windows wide open. For your listening pleasure. And then when it's your time you trip on an empty bottle of astroglide.

He slipped and got swept downriver. Not exactly ideal way to go.

Not to be a downer here but I had a friend who was fishing and died because some sort of blood vessel broke in his lung (or at least that is how it was explained to me) and he choked to death on his own blood. Not necessarily an ideal way to go even though he was fishing.

Actually I hear drowning is a pretty peaceful death. (as reported by people who were revived after almost drowning.) Better than a drawn out illness IMO.

I have a phobia of fish. It seems like a fairly traumatic way to exit this world if you ask me.

Scared to fish? Why, don't like water on your dress?

my FIL is a pretty good crappie tourn. fisherman.

he's retired and before his tourny partner retired my MIL would go and scout fish lakes with him all over the country. hell a couple of years ago in florida she fished several tournaments with him and they even won one.

they actually enjoy fishing together, but they enjoy just being together also.
