Here's a video that'll have you riveted: an ominously comprehensive rendering that shows the time and place of every nuclear detonation (http://dvice.com/archives/2010/07/new-images-of-t.php) from 1945 to 1998.

Although the map and graphics are almost comically low-res, the minimalist presentation is so effective you can't look away. Every explosion produces a musical chime, and every time a new nation goes nuclear, it gets a different note. We were particularly struck by the Cold War musical duel between the U.S. and U.S.S.R., as each responds to the other's nuclear testing, resulting in a darkly impressive light show on the map.

Why does it stop at 1998? Creator Isao Hashimoto used a book published in 2000 as reference material for the vid. I think it's time for an update, Mr. Hashimoto. That's a lot of goddamn nukes. Almost 2,000 dropped between the Russians and the US.

If you take a look at the history of Thyroid Cancer clusters in the 1960's in the Midwest you can see a relationship. The Fallout follows the jetstream.

Nuke blows up in NV - - Fallout is carried by jetstream into the Midwest - - Rains - - Cows eat crops - - Milk is given to school kids every day starting in Kindergarten - - Thyroid Cancer

The 90's documentary Trinity and Beyond is very interesting.

Part of the review of Trinity & Beyond on Amazon: Standouts include the United States' South Pacific detonation of an atom bomb 90 feet below the water to study the effects on a fleet of ships. Surprise, surprise, they sink! If that wasn't enough, the navy also loaded the decks with sheep to study the effects of the blast on life forms. Surprise, surprise, they die! Glowing leg of lamb anyone?

that's freaking frightening. You think we almost blew up the world in 1962 during the missle crisis? We came a lot closer in 1995.

only Yeltsin not believing that we were attacking Russia kept us from nuclear annilation. The Russian generals were threatning to overthrow him if he didn't launch all the Russian missles. Its a damn good thing for our world that Yeltsin wasn't drunk at the time. One of the two conscripts in a Russian missle silo were given the okay to fire by a general who jumped the gun. One conscript was willing to fire without a check that the orders were indeed valid as was their protocol and he was trying to convince the other to fire to save the homeland.

Yep, pretty damn scary story for those of you who choose to research it. We all were mere minutes from total destruction and none of us even had the remote idea of what was happening......scary....

Vasily Arkhipov was the man who saved the world in 1962.

Able Archer almost led to a nuclear exchange in 1983, and the 1995 incident was due to a rocket launch over Norway meant to study the Northern Lights.

That was an underground detonation and was used in some kind of experiment to help map pockets of natural gas. Probably about 30 miles from where I have lived for the last 30 years. By the way, does anyone know anything that might be good to get rid of glowing piss?
