Elvis Dumervil has agreed to a contract extension, the Broncos announced late Thursday night.

According to people familiar with the negotiation, the deal will keep the All-Pro linebacker in Denver through the 2015 season. The sources said Dumervil agreed to a five-year, $58.332 million extension. On top of the $3.168 million salary Dumervil was already going to make this season, his contract stretches to six years and $61.5 million.

He will receive $43.168 million of that money, guaranteed against injury, through the 2013 season. Dumervil's guarantee sets an NFL record for pass-rushers, eclipsing the $42 million Julius Peppers got from Chicago.

That is a lot of money paid to a guy that is a pure pass rusher and offers little to nothing else.

With that said. At least he is a great pass rusher.

I'm not comparing Dumervil to Derrick Thomas I'm just saying DT was a one dimensional player who could only rush the passer.

While true, it's not out of line with how guys have been getting paid lately. These contracts are insane these days.

Excellent news, anyone who discounts the importance of a top-notch pass rusher hasn't been paying attention.

Anyone know what the "gauranteed against injury" verbiage means?

Tell me about it.

Its a bit too much.

Thought Id mention about the contracts of the #1 overall picks over the last 5 years.

There is a outrageous escalation in salary increase.

Look at these numbers:

2005-Alex Smith 6yrs, 49.5 million, 24 million guaranteed
2006-Mario Williams 6 yrs, 54 million, 26 million guaranteed
2007-Jamarcus Russel 6 yrs, 61 million, 29 million guaranteed
2008-Jake Long 5 yrs, 57.75 million, 30 million guaranteed
2009-Matthew Stafford 6 yrs, 72 million, 41.7 million guaranteed
2010-Sam Bradford ?? I think he is going to be in the range of 6 yrs, 78 million w/ 45-50 million guaranteed

*Jamarcus Russel worst contract ever imo

You don't know much about Derrick Thomas.

The one knock on Thomas was that he was one-dimensional, not very good against the run.

Thomas belongs in both halls. He didn’t immediately get into the Pro Hall of Fame — this was his fifth year of eligibility — because of reservations based on the perception that Thomas was a “one-dimensional” defensive player. That dimension, of course, was rushing the passer. He wasn’t considered as good at stopping the run.

Kind of. DT was certainly a much better pass rusher than he was run stuffer, but he was still an above-average run stuffer.

Not saying that Dumerville isn't, though. I haven't really paid that much attention to him, honestly.

Who the fuck is Tidesports?

Anytime a player is as good of a pass rusher as DT was your run defense will always look sub-par in comparison.

Unlike Dumberville who gets run over frequently.

Just ignore this guy.. DT is in the Hall, no need to debate his skills.

Karl Mecklenburg was on the radio yesterday and said that when he was in Denver and when they played Derrick Thomas their gameplan was to run right at him because he was such a poor run defender.

He says it around the 11 minute mark.... http://milehighsports.com/Article.asp?id=1307299

Dude this isn't the place for anti-DT ralk. They have heard it all here from DT was a hound dog who left children scattered about to DT should have worn his seat belt, etc. etc.
Fact is DT was a bad mofo on the field and he is one of their own here; you aren't going to convince anyone otherwise regardless of whether you are correct or not.
