Mecca used to say he's as good as Jared Allen.

I scouted Schobel when he was playing collegiately in Ft. Worth.

I would love to see him in Kansas City.

He was also a pro bowl selection in 2006 and 2007

where we gonna play him?

he's not really a 3-4 DE and he's not really a 3-4 rushbacker.

he probably goes to the Texans

if he was a guy that could take upgrade Hali or vrabel's position then i would be fine taking a look. I just think he is more of a 4-3 DE.

Hey now. That was when JA was a Chief. We all know now that he's a Viking, Schobel couldn't hold his jock.

What's next for Schobel?

PM ETAaron Schobel | Bills | Interested: Jets?, Dolphins?, Patriots?, Texans?

NFL.com's Jason LaCanfora tweets that defensive end Aaron Schobel has been informed of his pending release from the Buffalo Bills (who have apparently chosen not to try and trade Schobel, as we had speculated about earlier), and "he is very much interested in talking to other teams as a free agent."

As for what teams might be interested in acquiring Schobel, the New England Patriots could be a good option. The Pats need to bolster their pass rush (read about their rumored interest in Adewale Ogunleye here), and Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com writes that Schobel could be the perfect replacement for an almost-retired Derrick Burgess. ESPN.com blogger Tim Graham adds that in addition to New England, AFC East teams Miami and the New York Jets also make sense as potential landing spots for Schobel.

The Houston Texans might also be a possibility. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle tweets that the team would be Schobel's first choice because of his close relationship with Bill Kollar, the Texans' D-line coach.

---

After an offseason in which Schobel did his best Brett Favre impression -- saying he would retire only to recently insinuate that he'd like to play again -- the Bills have decided to cut ties with Schobel and move on without him.

Assuming Schobel does indeed want to play this season (and it seems like he does, especially since almost any new team would be an upgrade over the Bills from a competitive standpoint), there could be a few teams interested in making a move to acquire the veteran.

Even if we just stick him in as a 3rd down specialist, he'd be an upgrade for this defense. Just give him 2 years and 5-6 million total, and cut Vrabel's worthless ass.

I said that back when you know Schobel was good and one of the league leaders in sacks.

If he was a fit for the 3-4 or looking to play it I doubt Buffalo would be releasing him.

We should of drafted Chris Kelsay.

Looks like after they said they wouldn't release him, now the bills are going to let him go. Most likely to play for a team like the texans who have a shot at the playoff since schobel has never played in one playoff game in his entire career

They realized no one was going to offer them anything for him. There's some feeling that the Texans won't offer him much because Bob McNair has been one of the owners calling for more fiscal responsibility, especially this year, and he doesn't want to appear hypocritical.

FWIW, McNair and the Texans are in the process of extending Andre Johnson's contract - which has 5 years left on it.

I know, but I think he could sell the other owners on the idea that he needs to make his current player happy, and that right now compared to what other top receivers get Johnson is underpaid. I think Johnson is the best player in the franchise's short history, and it could be seen as a commitment to franchise players. But I get your point, I just think other owners would perceive extending Johnson differently than signing Shobel.
McNair might do it anyway. I'm sure he's sick of hovering between 6-10 and 9-7 every year.

There's just no way I'd do that right now.

With a potential lockout coming, there's no telling what the salary structure will be.

I'd hate to tie myself into a bad deal (though maybe he knows that the new agreement will favor vets over rookies and is trying to stay ahead of the curve...hell, what do I know?)
