I just want to throw these numbers at you. Yuni is now 6th among MLB shortstops in slugging. He's also now in the top 10 among SS in OPS. If he could walk at all, he'd really be having a very good offensive season.

unfortunately, OBP is hugely important, and he laughably sucks in that category.

As it stands, for games played up to yesterday, he is the 3rd-worst everyday shortstop in baseball. Of all everyday shortstops in both leagues: he has the 2nd-worst glove (only Hanley Ramirez of the Marlins costs his team more runs on defense) and the 6th-worst bat. He has improved, but his "improvement" was up from the worst player in all of baseball last year. Even with his hitting streak, as measured by Wins Above Replacement (0.4), he's still tied for the 2nd-worst player on the Royals, right along with the anemic Jason Kendall, and barely better than Brian Bannister (0.0).

He's worth about one half of a win more in an entire season than an emergency AAA shortstop callup.

minor leagues

AAA

Just started, no one special is pitching, so just Moose Tacos today.

AA

no game today

Advanced A

Buddy Baumann (SP) - He's a 2nd or 3rd-tier prospect, maybe he'll be someone someday, maybe not. Had a nice season as a rookie last year, having a fairly good season this year, had a shakey day today. 4IP 0R 0ER 2BB 7K. No idea what his pitchcount was, but he faced 19 batters, so I assume he must have had long counts and stranded a lot of runners.

Colon (SS) - 1/5
Myers (C) - 0/3, 2BB, 2K

Go figure. We've scored 3 runs total in the last 2 games and won both. Amazing.

Chen vs Carmona should be interesting tonight - by interesting, I mean another low scoring affair.

On the called third strike to the last two Indians batters last night: Both of those pitches were low and outside.

Indians got jobbed. Not that I care. Happens to us all the time.

Just goes to show, when you get a reputation as a quality pitcher, the ump will give you an extra four inches off the plate.

Rivera gets the same for the Yanks.

Indian hitters should have been smart enough to be up their hacking. That pitch was going to be called a strike, whether it was over the plate or not.

the strike zone gets alot bigger when the teams are in last place.
