He has bad headaches that can cause dizziness and vomiting. I hope that's what's wrong with him anyway.

I've had cluster headaches (also known as suicide headaches because the pain is much worse than common migraines) since my 20s and the pain has been so bad I've had to go to emergency to have them knock me out.

Are you asthmatic?

I had cluster headaches for more than 20 years, until I was finally diagnosed as asthmatic and given proper treatment for asthma. Since I began taking asthma medication, (knock on wood), I haven't had a series in four years.

I'd get them for six weeks at a time, sometimes twice a year. The pain was so unbearable that I'd pass out.

no kidding?

i'm curious how a breathing condition could translate to headaches? Is it oxygen flow or something?

Yeah, exactly.

Many people that suffer from cluster headaches find that pure oxygen is the only way to get relief, so they'll have tanks in their home for when the headaches start.

When I was diagnosed with asthma back in 2007, I had only been using 38% of my lung capacity my entire life. With the help of the medicine, I'm up to about 78% but I'll probably never get to 100%. Too much long term damage.

Wow, never heard that before and I've read up on clusters quite a bit. Glad to hear it worked for you!

I was told once that I was borderline asthmatic but not enough to need medication for it. Maybe I'll check into it. Mine used to happen every year between Nov to Jan. Now they happen on a two year cycle between May to July. This was supposed to be the year but I lucked out...nothing makes me happier than that!

Also heard that some people use magic mushrooms to break the cluster cycle before it begins. Believe Harvard was doing a study on it a few years ago.

He's suffered from migraines since the age of 10. He's undergone a battery of tests. If he had a tumor I think they'd have found it by now.

What's weird is that I played basketball, baseball, football and boxed for years and had no idea. The doctors all thought I had allergies. My parents took me to several doctors when I was young because I constantly sneezed all the time, but they all said it was pollen, mold, etc.

I began snoring very heavily in 2006 and a friend suggested I see a head, nose and throat specialist. After a CT scan, he couldn't find anything that was causing the snoring, so he sent me to an allergist. There, I took breathing tests that I'd never taken before, allergy tests and he even performed rhinoscopy in his office. After those test had concluded, he asked me a few questions.

Doc: How do you think you're breathing today?
Me: Well, I didn't take an allergy pill this morning because of the tests, so I'd say about 95%.
Doc: You're using 38% of your lung capacity. You have severe asthma.
Me: Well, that certainly explains a few things!
Doc: Do you suffer from headaches frequently?
Me: No, but I do have cluster headaches.
Doc: I think they're about to go away...

Oh, and the only I test for at the time was gluten, which has now gone away as well.

I didn't move to Los Angeles until I was 27 and had experienced cluster headaches since I was 19 or 20. Actually, the frequency of cycles decreased once I moved out here. I was having them every year, sometimes twice a year in Kansas but once in Cali, they shifted to every other year.
