i'm not sayin it has anything to do with the pressure that the US is putting on countries that are dealing with Assange...but it seems pretty convenient that it arose now too.

Maybe just a coincidence? Drunk hookup home from the bar where things go bad the next morning?

no, i don't think so. going on a google translation of THIS SITE (http://www.expressen.se/Nyheter/1.2104976/wikileaks-grundare-anhallen-for-valdtakt) it seems that Assange "met" them while they were working on assignment.

One woman he should have met last week between Saturday and Sunday in an apartment in Stockholm.
Other woman will he have met in Enköping on Tuesday morning, according to Expressen.
A source with insider tells how he met the women:
- He met the victims through their assignments.

- The girls know each other and they both know that they have experienced the same thing.

it seems suspicious because he knows that multiple governments are out to silence him, but then he supposedly gives them a great reason to arrest him by raping and molesting two women? is that something that someone in his position would do?

it all smells too fishy to me.

well, he seems to have been cleared now, but had he been charged and the prosecution went ahead, rather than assume some big dark global conspiracy I would have gone with Occam's razer. Yeah, he'd have been an unbelievable idiot, but any time I place a bet on human stupidity, I win more often than not.

You should try placing bets on government stupidity and improve your odds.

Of course it is. The war party will not stop it's smear on those that expose the regime.
