Chiefs' Maurice Leggett taken off with neck injury
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 21, 2010 10:21 PM ET
Chiefs cornerback Maurice Leggett was taken off the field Saturday night on a cart after a scary neck injury left him on the ground for a number of minutes.

Leggett was knocked down while tackling Bucs running back Kareem Huggins. Both the Chiefs and Bucs held their hands together praying for Leggett while a stretcher was brought out and used to lift Leggett on to the cart.

Leggett had movement in his hands and legs, according to Josh Looney of the Chiefs' website.

Not cool. He had speed. Not a lot of ability, but IIRC did well on special teams.

Hope he's ok.

That being said his technique at CB is awful. He plays with a huge cushion and still gets spun like a top.

He got up after the hit before he went back down to the ground. I think the stretcher and cart were all for precautionary reasons. Nonetheless, I hope that he is OK.

That's a good sign. At least he exhibited movement before going down the second time.

Aug 21, 2010 - Kansas City Chiefs (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/kansas-city-chiefs) safety Maurice Leggett (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/34474/Maurice_Leggett) was carted off the field on Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/tampa-bay-buccaneers) with what's been called a neck injury.

After the game, Haley told reporters the "initial signs on extremities were positive", according to Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com.
Leggett will stay in Tampa overnight.

He was trying to tackle Bucs running back Kareem Huggins (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/79416/Kareem_Huggins) when he went to the ground.

Trainers came out and tended to him for 10-15 minutes before a cart came onto the field. He was put onto a stretcher and carried off.

The Chiefs and Bucs sidelines both had come onto the field. The Chiefs huddled in a team prayer at one point.

On ESPN this morning they did say he was able to move arms, legs. He'll be back out soon . Haley don't play that crap!

Maurice Leggett is expected to make full recovery

Great news came out of the Chiefs Training Facility late Monday afternoon. CB Maurice Leggetthttp://www.kcchiefs.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.kcchiefs.com/team/roster/maurice-leggett/8a2798c8-89d4-4247-a4af-5819d192f1bd/), who left Saturday’s game in Tampa on a stretcher, isn’t expected to have any long-term health issues due to a spine and/or neck injury.

“Everything looks good,” head coach Todd Haley said. “There is nothing spinal or anything like that. He was in a pretty good condition and I think that the trainers and doctors did everything that they were supposed to do as far as taking all precautions. It’s a scary situation, but that part of it is out of the mix.”

Even better, Haley said that he expects to see Leggett return to the practice field “sooner, rather than later.”

“All things are pointing to the fact that this should not affect him career-wise,” Haley said.

Give him some flintstones chewable morphine and I'm sure haley will have him back on the field tomorrow.

I think Haley had "the" talk with him and Leggett decided he could play with a broken spine.
