I have to admit I was surprised to see Mr. Beck's comments this morning regretting his remarks about President Obama being a racist. I don't have a lot of respect for the man, but I have more today than I did yesterday. A cut and paste of the comments below:

He also said he regretting calling President Obama a racist. " 'Racist,' first of all, it shouldn't have been said," Beck told Wallace. "It was poorly said. I have a big fat mouth sometimes and I say things. That's just not the way people should behave. And it was not accurate."

I agree that Obama is not a racist. OTOH, he is overly racial and sees the world through a racial (and social) prism that forces him to focus more intensely on the aspects of America's history/present that are regrettable than on the aspects of America's history/present that are commendable. He wants to take from the people who he thinks have benefited from this regrettable America and give to it's victims instead of encouraging the commendable traits to continue to grow more prevalent. IMO

That seems accurate. And laudable!

Beck sure seems to scare some folks on the left for whatever reason.

Yes, it is. And no, it isn't.

he basically amended his statement and said that he believes Obama is what we already knew about sitting in JWright's church for two decades...he follows black liberation theology, which is pretty much what you just described.

I agree with that. Hard left (socialist types) despise conservatives. Especially one with faith. When they see one getting any traction they have fits of apoplexy. They foamed similarly about Reagan.

I think you paint with too wide a brush. I have socialist tendencies and believe govt has a role to play in a society that is growing increasingly complex. But I don't hate conservatives. In fact, I like you.

I think if I could sit down and talk with Beck, I would walk away liking him. That doesn't mean I am going to vote for him in the next election.

You're the exception that proves the rule. I've seen it way too often including on this board, other boards, my family and in life. The hard left foams (particularly the atheist sort) about Reagan, Beck and other right Conservatives but if they're religious the hate is over the top. You just happen to also be religious and a nice person.

Besides I was just trying to clean out some of the piss in HC's punch bowl I left in it the other day.
